Euroformula currently has only one driver confirmed for the 2026 season, but has attracted a new team.

BVM Racing has the only named signing, with Javier Herrera joining what is anticipated to be a three-car line-up.

The 16-year-old Mexican spent 2025 racing for Jenzer Motorsport in Formula 4, starting off with a Formula Winter Series cameo. He then did two Italian F4 rounds, scoring one point, and came third in the F4 Central European Zone championship with three wins and one pole. In September he also made an E4 cameo, but that was with AKM Motorsport.

Appearing on Euroformula’s grid for the first time this year is another Italian outfit: G-Motorsport.

It plans to run two cars in the Formula 3-level championship, having previously raced in the Formula X paddock in its home country. There it won multiple titles by running first-generation F4 cars in the Pro Series and Formula Renault 2.0 cars in FX2, and it also raced with Euroformula’s previous-generation Dallara 320 car in the F2000 Italian Trophy.

“We are ready and determined to take on this new challenge in Euroformula,” said G-Motorsport’s team principal Andrea Giannetta.

“Over the past few months, we have prepared with great meticulousness, conducting several test sessions that have yielded positive results and very encouraging results. Our team has always stood out for its attention to detail, and this has allowed us to achieve several successes at the national level over the years. Now we want to look beyond our borders, and the reality organised by GT Sport seems like the ideal context in which to do so: we have gained extensive experience in managing F3 single-seaters, and the 324 model also represents a highly competitive and stimulating challenge for us to tackle.”

Successful sportscar racing team Nielsen Racing took two victories in its maiden Euroformula campaign last year, including winning on debut, and it has rebranded to Northstar Racing ahead of its sophomore campaign.

Formula Regional, GB3 and Formula 4 teams have concluded their 2025 testing schedules in Europe over the last week.

There was an Italian F4 test at Vallelunga on November 29/30 featuring 23 drivers, and 0.064 seconds split the top four.

Arjen Kraling was quickest, topping the day two afternoon session with a 1m34.538s that put him 0.018s ahead of US Racing team-mate Ludovico Busso and with a 0.064s gap to Prema’s Sasha Bondarev.

In the morning, the driver of US’s #460 car had set a 1m34.551s that put them third fastest overall. They had edged Kraling by 0.051s, Bondarev by 0.057s and Busso by 0.095s in the session.

Including two drivers who did not improve on their day one bests, a second covered the top 16.

The driver of US’s #460 car had started the test on top, posting a 1m34.726s on their final lap of the morning on day one to lead Bondarev by 0.078s and the driver of US’s #17 car by 0.128s. In the afternoon, that driver lowered the pace to 1m34.751s to pip Bondarev by 0.002s, US’s #460 driver by 0.066s and Busso by 0.1s.

Barcelona hosted junior single-seater testing for three days, with multiple categories on track. The nine-car contingent of FIA Formula 3 cars included entries from Campos Racing, Prema, DAMS and Hitech GP, who ran Michael Shin and Jin Nakamura.

There were 10 GB3 cars in action, but Elite Motorsport’s drivers were on their own on day one. Other teams joined for the next two days, and Hitech’s drivers set the pace in all but two sessions where Rodin Motorsport’s Maxim Rehm and Hillspeed’s Dante Vinci led the way.

Global Racing Service was running Gianni Giovanelli in one of its Eurocup-3 cars, with Palou Motorsport also on track from that championship, while Elite was the only team gathering mileage with GB4 machinery.

There were also 13 F4 drivers testing, entered by Van Amersfoort Racing, Monlau Motorsport, SG Motorsport and AKM Motorsport. The VAR drivers were comfortably quickest, and AKM’s line-up included Vittorio Orsini and Williams Formula 1 junior Dean Hoogendoorn.

Orsini won the 22nd edition of the Italian motorsport federation’s annual Supercorso Federale award last month, beating four other finalists over a four-day programme of “psychophysical assessments, simulator activities, track driving and specific training”. This included F4 running with Prema, formated to mirror a race weekend.

Coaching Orsini through the final was 1993 Italian F3 champion Christian Pescatori.

Euroformula team Motopark rented the Paul Ricard circuit this Tuesday and Wednesday, and it ran six of its cars. Double R Racing, which last raced in Euroformula back in 2021, and BVM Racing joined in with three cars each, but they were all outpaced by MP Motorsport. While it ran two cars in the test, Formula Scout understands MP is not the new team that the championship has teased will join the grid in 2026.

In separate sessions were a contingent of FEED Racing’s Formula 4 cars and several FRegional European Championship teams.

R-ace GP’s Emanuele Olivieri started off as fastest, then Prema’s Kean Nakamura Berta topped the next three sessions on the dry first day. In slower conditions on Wednesday, Oliveri and team-mate Rashid Al Dhaheri topped the timesheets.

Yevan David ended Euroformula’s season with victory in a dramatic race three at Monza.

Reversed-grid poleman Alessandro Famularo was swamped at the start, dropping to fourth, as Enzo Yeh stalled and fell from third to last.

There was contact into turn two between Shin and champion Tymek Kucharcyk, who got a five-second penalty for sending Shin into the gravel and down to 11th. Ed Pearson had started there after a three-place grid penalty for causing a crash in race two, but gained three places within a lap.

Jose Garfias led Kucharczyk by 0.762 seconds starting lap two, as David edged ahead of Famularo. He got back past by cutting the della Roggia chicane, then had to concede third place and lost out to Everett Stack too.

Kucharczyk took the lead into lap three’s first corner, and Garfias pulled off an identical move in return a lap later just as Stack overtook David.

The top five entered the first corner of lap five as a pack, with Kucharczyk claiming the lead and David passing Stack.

On lap seven, Garfias attempted to get back ahead of Kucharczyk but was forced to cut turn two. He rejoined in front, but had to let Kucharczyk by.

Garfias was more successful on lap 10, going around Kucharczyk’s outside. But Kucharczyk utilised the slipstream to lead again before della Roggia, where he moved across to the inside to stop Garfias from fighting back.

There was now a six-car train, completed by Shin, and Garfias got to its front down the pit straight on lap 11. Kucharczyk was baulked by Garfias exiting turn two, allowing David through on the inside. But Kucharczyk had superior speed, using the grass on the inside as he went past David through Curva Grande then going around the outside of Garfias at della Roggia.

Garfias began lap 12 by slipstreaming past Kucharczyk, who locked up as he braked late on the inside of turn one to reclaim the lead. The battling meant the top eight were now together.

Another lead change was executed by Garfias approaching della Roggia, and he cut to the inside once his car was fully ahead.

Kucharczyk went off at Lesmo 2, losing out to David, then again through Ascari. That held up Diego de la Torre, who was overtaken by Stack and Shin. They cleared Kucharczyk down the pit straight, with de la Torre alongside until he cut turn two.

Lap 14 began with David easing into the lead, defending against Garfias then returning to the racing line. That left the door open for Garfias at turn one, but David passed him again at della Roggia and stayed ahead for the remaining two-and-a-half laps.

On the final tour, Garfias got alongside into della Roggia and at Parabolica, going to David’s outside as Stack picked his inside. Garfias slid off mid-corner, Kucharczyk — who had taken fourth there two laps earlier — and Shin went past and Kucharczyk finished 0.02s behind Stack before his penalty demoted him to seventh.

BVM Racing’s Tymek Kucharczyk became Euroformula champion with a race to spare in a slipstreaming classic at Monza.

His title rival Yevan David started on reversed-grid pole, alongside Alessandro Famularo who was slow off the line. That put Ed Pearson into second, but he retired after moving across on Fernando Barrichello and breaking the latter’s front wing.

Famularo tried recovering ground by charging into turn one, except he cut the corner entirely and spun across turn two’s entry as he rejoined. That forced off Kucharczyk, who returned to track as leader while Michael Shin, Barrichello (who needed to pit) and Luca Viisoreanu all cut the chicane.

David reclaimed the lead, with Kucharczyk, Diego de la Torre, Everett Stack, Shin, Jose Garfias and Enzo Yeh completing a seven-car train behind him as lap two began. There were yellow flags from turns one to three due to Pearson’s stopped car.

Shin passed Stack into the final corner, and tried the same on de la Torre on lap three but Stack overtook both on the outside.

Kucharczyk took the lead from David starting lap five, and Shin cleared de la Torre too before the yellow flags. Garfias was then applying pressure, and got past de la Torre on the inside of Parabolica.

David lost second to Stack into turn one on lap six, and de la Torre cut turn two to reclaim fifth so hand to return the position. Stack cut the della Roggia chicane after getting alongside Kucharczyk, and the pack closed up again.

Kucharczyk locked up to fend off Stack into turn one a lap later, then Stack got around the outside of him into della Roggia but Kucharczyk got the better exit and squeezed back past into Lesmo 1.

Shin went around David’s outside at Lesmo 2, then on lap eight went to the inside of Stack through Curva Grande and Kucharczyk through Parabolica to become leader. De la Torre went off at Lesmo 2 and lost out to Yeh, and Garfias ended the lap passing David for fourth.

This time Kucharczyk’s turn one lock-up allowed Stack to go around his outside at turn two, and his attempt to reclaim second into della Roggia sent Stack off but did count as a pass. David tried overtaking around the outside into Ascari, but it allowed Yeh to clear he and Garfias for fourth.

Garfias got back past at turn one on lap 10, and Kucharczyk and Stack went either side of leader Shin as lap 11 began. Positions were held, until Stack took second through Parabolica.

They went three-wide again starting lap 12, with Kucharczyk on the outside grass but snatching the lead into turn one.

Garfias used the inside through Curva Grande to demote Stack to fourth, and at the della Roggia chicane Shin went off David went around Yeh’s outside for fifth. He gained another spot as Stack found the gravel at Ascari.

The top three now had a gap, and Garfias looked to Shin’s outside into della Roggia on lap 13. Kucharczyk braked early, Shin moved across, and Garfias was squeezed onto the grass then over the back of Shin’s car.

Garfias parked up after Lesmo 1, Shin pitted, and Kucharczyk now led comfortably over David and Stack. Until the last lap.

David slipstreamed past on the pit straight, then Kucharczyk dived down the inside into turn one to get back ahead. The outside of Curva Grande became the inside of della Roggia for David, and he led again.

He weaved down the back straight, and Kucharczyk carried more speed into Parabolica on the outside to lead. But David exited ahead, and Stack made it three-wide approaching the finish. Kucharczyk won by 0.001 seconds, clinching the title.

Motopark’s Everett Stack claimed his second Euroformula victory in an entertaining opening race of the weekend at Monza.

His team-mate Yevan David started on pole, ahead of BVM Racing’s points leader Tymek Kucharczyk.

They held their positions at first, as a six-car train formed. Kucharczyk locked up under pressure into turn one on lap three, and Michael Shin went down his inside at the della Roggia chicane. Shin got a wheel alongside David there two laps later.

Jose Garfias squeezed inside of Kucharczyk into turn one on lap six, and Kucharczyk got back alongside but was demoted to sixth as Enzo Yeh drove around the outside of him at Ascari and Stack overtook on the inside at the last corner.

Kucharczyk shot back past both under braking into turn one, but it forced Yeh to cut turn two to avoid contact. Stack then dived past Kucharczyk at della Roggia but ran too deep and was back to sixth.

He nailed his next attempt at turn one on lap eight, and Yeh was shuffled down to sixth through Curva Grande.

Just ahead, Garfias took second into turn one on lap nine then the lead on lap 11. David reclaimed it through Curva Grande, while Stack overtook Shin for third on the outside into della Roggia. The top two now had a gap, until they battled again.

Garfias took the outside for turn one on lap 12 wans was ahead but did not have room to turn in and cut the chicane. He was only able to return the lead to David at the last corner, then passed at turn one again on the inside but cut turn two. Yeh had overtaken Kucharczyk under braking, and exiting turn two Shin’s rear-right wheel drove for his front-left.

The rear of Shin’s car was sent skywards and Yeh was gravel-bound, with both then parking up to retire. Fernando Barrichello navigated the chaos to snatch fourth, with Ed Pearson now completing the six-car train.

Stack took second from David into the final corner, but David had nosed ahead as they started lap 14.

David led again approaching turn one on lap 15 of 16, but three-wide action after Curva Grande put Garfias and Stack ahead of him. Stack slipstreamed past on the left entering the last lap, but David went further outside and shot past the top two under braking.

Garfias also passed Stack but spun around Motopark team-mate David, cut the chicane and visited turn two’s gravel.

It put Stack back ahead, and he led home Barrichello and Kucharczyk for victory. David’s rear-left tyre shredded, but he still finished sixth with a crabbing car and earned reversed-grid pole for race two.

Kucharczyk’s championship lead grew to 36 points with two races left, David moved ahead of Shin into second in the standings by two points and Garfias exited title contention.

Car racing debutant Stylianos Kolovos crashed into fellow series newcomer Luca Viisoreanu early on, eliminating his Nielsen Racing team-mate and copping a three-place grid penalty.

Motopark’s Yevan David topped qualifying for Euroformula’s season finale at Monza, comfortably faster than his title rivals.

There were 12 drivers who took part. Enzo Yeh stayed with BVM Racing while Nielsen Racing had Luca Viisoreanu join its line-up and Stylianos Kolovos replace Theo Micouris who, along with Yeh, had debuted last time out at Barcelona.

Romanian racer Viisoreanu is a single-seater sophomore who came 15th in Formula 4 Central European Zone and 24th in Italian F4 this year.

Greek teenager Kolovos has raced OK class karts since 2024, coming 24th in WSK’s Champions Cup, 26th in its Euro Series, 54th in the Champions of the Future series and 62nd in CIK-FIA World Championship.

The car racing debutant accrued some crucial mileage in Thursday’s pre-event test, in which Jose Garfias set a 1m42.599s to lead Motopark team-mate and title rival Michael Shin by 0.244 seconds. Yeh was third, Viisoreanu was 1.118s back in seventh and Kolovos was 3.571s off the pace.

Free practice followed on Friday, and first place was disputed by Yeh and team-mate Tymek Kucharczyk through FP1.

Kucharczyk set a 1m42.666s late on to be fastest by 0.611s, with Viisoreanu a further 0.045s behind Yeh. Motopark’s Diego de la Torre was 1.291s off the pace in fourth.

Seven different drivers spent time on top during FP2, and David was first to beat the benchmark from FP1 with a 1m42.632s. Two laps later he improved to 1m42.537s, but could find no more pace while Kucharczyk beat him by 0.089s then improved again to 1m42.222s.

Kucharczyk also then could go no faster in his remaining flying laps, and Shin got within 0.061s of him on his penultimate lap. Motopark’s Everett Stack was fourth, 0.489s back, and Garfias completed a top five covered by half a second. Kolovos ended the day 4.487s off the pace, with he and Viisoreanu not improving on their FP1 times.

Stack set the pace in qualifying on Saturday morning, before David posted his first flying lap. Later on Yeh moved to the top, then Nielsen’s Ed Pearson set a 1m43.675s that made him fastest by 0.139s.

At the 10-minute mark Stack returned to provisional pole, lapping in 1m43.505s, while the title contenders languished down the order. David was fourth, 0.446s back, and rivals Garfias, Kucharczyk and Shin were all over two seconds off the pace outside the top eight.

It was David who raised his game first, beating Stack by 0.468s. Two laps later he improved further to 1m42.340s, then after the chequered flag sealed the deal with a 1m41.842s lap.

With six minutes remaining, Kucharczyk had got up to second but was 0.867s slower than David, with Shin and Garfias closely matched and a second off in fourth and sixth.

Kucharczyk then reduced David’s advantage to 0.282s before his last lap, and while he also improved on his last effort he qualified 0.694s behind.

Shin was 0.817s away from pole in third, and Garfias was fifth. Kolovos trailed by 4.627s on his debut.

An eventful weekend at Barcelona means Euroformula has a four-way title fight with one round remaining of 2025.

The 11-car field featured two newcomers to single-seaters’ third tier: Formula Regional graduate Enzo Yeh and sportscar racer Theo Micouris. They got their first running in pre-event testing, topped by Everett Stack by just 0.07 seconds over Tymek Kucharczyk.

Two practice sessions followed and Micouris surprised by setting a 1m32.824s to take top spot by 0.195s over Kucharczyk.

Yevan David came to the fore in qualifying on Saturday, claiming pole despite not improving late on like his rivals. He pipped Kucharczyk by 0.023s, with Diego de la Torre 0.234s behind. Just 0.061s split him, Jose Garfias, Stack and Micouris.

A slow start to race one cost David two places, and Kucharczyk took the lead. Title contender Michael Shin had qualified ninth, but rose to sixth. De la Torre had to defend second place on lap two, and Shin started lap three alongside Stack.

He tried passing him on the outside but his rear-right tyre was punctured by Stack’s front wing and he spun, with both drivers having to pit.

Victory was soon assured for Kucharczyk as de la Torre got penalised five seconds for jumping the start, and Stack was penalised five seconds for the contact.

David pressured de la Torre again mid-race, and darted to his inside at turn one on lap 11 to get ahead. De la Torre went off at the final corner of lap 13 and fell behind Garfias, who did not stay third for long as a big turn one lock-up on lap 15 sent him way off and down the order.

Fernando Barrichello and Ed Pearson were now attacking de la Torre, and Pearson made a pass through the final corner. He then got ahead of de la Torre exiting turn four, and de la Torre went deep into turn five to get back past but at the cost of losing out to Barrichello. There was now a six-car train, and Yeh slid into Micouris at turn one on the last lap which put them out of podium contention. Pearson overtook de la Torre there too, but could not catch Barrichello after.

Alessandro Famularo finished sixth and started race two on Sunday on reversed-grid pole alongside Micouris. Both started very slowly and Pearson took first place.

David and Barrichello were behind him, and Barrichello pulled off an amazing double pass around the outside at turn one. Further back, Yeh and Garfias picked up damage requiring pitstops.

Pearson reclaimed the lead on the inside of turn two a lap later, and the field spread out.

David dived past Barrichello under braking into turn one on lap 13, Kucharczyk had taken fourth from Famularo there on lap five, and after early progress to sixth Shin was slow late on and lost seventh to a move by Stack completed at turn three.

Micouris and Stack were the front row starters for the reversed-grid race three, and puddle-filled sections of the track meant wet weather tyres were used and the safety car led the first two laps.

Shin pitted for slicks on lap one, and by lap four had a clear pace advantage on his warmer tyres that led to him picking off drivers. By the end of lap five he was second, but 5.4s behind Micouris.

Kucharczyk and Garfias had disputed third through lap three until Kucharczyk was sent through the turn seven gravel when trying a move. Stack was second, but ran off at the final corner so the inexperienced Micouris ended the lap with a 3.2s lead over Garfias.

Shin overtook Micouris around the outside of turn one on lap eight, while Garfias and Stack squabbled for third, Yeh and David pitted and de la Torre tried doing so too but crashed in the pit entry.

The race belonged to Shin in the second half, as he built a lead of almost 84s. Micouris retained a gap of at least two seconds to the battle for third, which Stack was eliminated from with a puncture. Garfias ended up holding off Barrichello in a photo finish, before the latter was penalised five seconds anyway.

Euroformula had three different winners in round six at the Red Bull Ring.

There were two practice sessions on Friday, and BVM Racing’s Tymek Kucharczyk set the pace by 0.189 seconds over Motopark’s Jose Garfias.

It marked the debuts of Alessandro Famularo (BVM), Formula 4 Central European Zone race-winner Lucas Viisoreanu (Motopark), single-seater rookie Ricardo Baptista and Francisco Soldavini (both Nielsen Racing). Soldavini is a race-winner in the Ultimate Cup Series’ Formula Cup for Formula Regional cars.

Qualifying took place on Saturday morning, and it was closely fought with 0.086s covering the top three. Kucharczyk was quickest, claiming pole by just 0.054s over Motopark’s Michael Shin.

Yevan David was third, and Motopark team-mate Diego de la Torre was 0.22s off pole in fourth. A second covered the top eight, with Famularo the second-best non-Motopark driver in seventh.

De la Torre burst into the lead at the start of race one, and at turn three Garfias demoted David to fourth. Shin tried reclaiming the lead at turn four, and got it after the corner as de la Torre went off. He ended up with a 1.1s lead over Garfias, with de la Torre rejoining in third ahead of Kucharczyk, Nielsen’s Ed Pearson and Motopark’s Everett Stack.

Kucharczyk overtook de la Torre on the inside of turn three on lap three, but de la Torre swept back past not long after. David meanwhile continued his descent. The fight for third heated up again on lap 10, with two passes and then an off for Kucharczyk.

But then de la Torre had an off at the end of lap 12 and Kucharczyk was gifted third. He went chasing Garfias, and repeatedly tried overtaking him through the last five laps. Garfias was always better under braking and stayed ahead. Shin meanwhile was 7.5s up the road celebrating victory.

David finished sixth behind Stack, so had reversed-grid pole for race two which he led lights to flag. Kucharczyk jumped to second at the start, but Stack reclaimed the spot on the outside at turn three. Shin overtook Garfias for fourth, then little happened until a backmarker clash triggered a safety car period.

On the lap seven restart David sprinted away, while Shin was on the attack then defence. On lap 11 he gained a place as Kucharczyk tried passing Stack at turns three and five but locked up. Shin went side-by-side with Stack on lap 12, and got him into turn one a lap later.

Stack went off and then came under more pressure from behind. A failed overtake by Kucharczyk at turn five on lap 17 allowed Garfias to get past briefly, and the squablled on the penultimate lap too. They moved ahead of Stack when he got a five-second track limits penalty.

In race three, Stack converted reversed-grid pole into a maiden victory. David got a puncture at the start by sweeping across de la Torre, and Garfias and Shin were second third. Kucharczyk rose to fourth on lap two, and the top four ran as a group.

On lap 11, Garfias took the lead after Stack put a wheel off exiting turn five. Kucharczyk overtook Shin a lap later, and on lap 13 Garfias locked up at turn three and dropped back to second. He had to be defensive thereon, while Stack pulled away.

Garfias succeeded, and Shin was demoted to fifth by a five-second penalty for jumping the start. De la Torre’s track limits penalty dropped him one spot to eighth.

Mattia Colnaghi led MP Motorsport team-mate Valerio Rinicella by 0.339 seconds in free practice at Spa-Francorchamps on Thursday.

There were two pre-event test sessions earlier in the day, and it was another MP one-two in the first but with Kai Daryanani leading Alexander Abkhazava. Daryanani set a 2m24.457s on a wet track to lead his team-mate by 0.215 seconds, and Drivex School’s Christopher Feghali was 1.193s off the pace in third.

Feghali and Jorge Garciarce are new additions to Drivex’s line-up for this week’s round, replacing Alessandro Famularo and Preston Lambert respectively. Famularo has decided to go to the Red Bull Ring this weekend to step up to Euroformula with BVM Racing, taking over the car that Lambert took to a podium finish last time out in July as a debutant.

Three weeks after that, Lambert had a crash in Eurocup-3’s most recent race at Assen and broke his right hand. That has not only ruled him out of this weekend’s round, but also the following one at Jerez on September 19-21. Drivex has already confirmed Garciarce will be in its line-up the rest of the season.

Lambert and Famularo are currently 25th and 27th in the Eurocup-3 standings, while Garciarce came 14th in USF Pro 2000 this year and Feghali is currently 13th in Spanish Formula 4. Earlier this year he was 10th in its winter championship.

It was dry by the time Eurocup-3’s second test session at Spa began this afternoon, and the pace was lowered to 2m13.382s by MP’s Maciej Gladysz. He had a 0.181s advantage over Campos Racing’s Ernesto Rivera, with Colnaghi 0.454s behind in third and team-mates Andres Cardenas and Emmo Fittipaldi completing a top five covered by 0.6s.

A further six Campos and MP drivers were within a second of the pace, with Sainteloc Racing’s Garrett Berry best of the rest in 12th.

He was fastest at first in practice, and traded top spot early on with Campos’s Enzo Tarnvanichkul, Fittipaldi and Palou Motorsport’s James Egozi.

Rinicella was first into the 2m14s, and was swiftly bettered by Fittipaldi. Gladysz and Rivera made small improvements to the benchmark laptime, then Rivera made further gains later on that brought him into the 2m13s.

Campos’s Jules Caranta set a 2m13.271s to beat him by 0.561s, but he only spent 10s in first place before Rinicella went quickest by 0.169s.

Rinicella went slower on his final lap, while Colnaghi and Rivera improved. Colnaghi set a 2m12.763s to comfortably go fastest, and Rivera got within 0.042s of Rinicella’s previous benchmark.

Euroformula is committed to continuing being an alternative to FIA F3 for drivers based in Europe, but there’s now another Spanish-run third-tier single-seater series on the continent seeking the same market space

The pyramid to Formula 1 can sometimes be a tricky one to draw out, since Formula 2 and Formula 3 are now the names of spec championships rather than actual formulas, and Formula 4 is actually the fifth-tier category below Formula Regional.

This is all ignoring the Road to Indy, where there are open-wheel cars going from the second down to the fifth tier and all designed to prepare drivers for IndyCar. The third and fourth tiers there aren’t really comparable to Europe’s.

The F3-level third tier currently consists of the FIA F3 Championship and Euroformula (with Japan’s Super Formula Lights series using the same cars) for contemporary machinery, then there are some series still using the last generation of F3 cars.

FRegional, and championships using FRegional-based cars, fill the fourth tier. The category is incorporated into the name of all the FIA-certified championships except for the planned AU3.

Launched as FRegional Australia but rebranded before getting underway, it cancelled its pre-season test and inaugural race event at late notice this May due to an issue with shipping cars from New Zealand. It also left it very late to cancel what would have been round two in June. Last month it should have raced at Sandown, but instead the 2025 season was called off.

The other FRegional-spec series without the name is Ultimate Cup Series’ Formula Cup, which uses the Tatuus T-318.

That car has been the design inspiration or basis of several other chassis from the Italian manufacturer, including the F3-T318 used in Eurocup-3, FRegional Oceania’s FT-60 and for the more bespoke MSV GB3-025 raced in GB3 to ensure it remains on par with European rivals.

GB3 had previously used a heavily upgraded Tatuus design that sat between FRegional and F4 in performance, and which was upgraded again to be reused this year in the formerly F4-spec GB4. In 2026, Britain has a de facto fourth-tier single-seater championship in GB3, one that sits just below in GB4, and then the truly fifth-tier British F4.

There will be lots of car changes in FRegional next year, as both Tatuus and Ligier introduce second-generation chassis.

Eurocup-3 will not be adopting the new Tatuus T-326, since it will instead be adopting a whole new technical ruleset.

Last week it announced it will be becoming a third-tier series from 2026 onwards, and will do so by switching to the ‘new’ Dallara 326 car with power supply from TOM’S-developed 1.6-litre turbocharged Toyota units.

The ‘326’ designation belongs to a bodykit in development for the six-year-old F3-level Dallara 320 car, and which will be remarkably close in specification to the ‘324’ bodykit introduced to SF Lights last year and in Euroformula this season.

Both of those championships also exclusively run the TOM’S engines, and Eurocup-3 has hired Engiser 101 to be its tuning partner for when it introduces them. The electronics will be the same, and the similarities extend to the GT Sport-run Euroformula and Eurocup-3 both being run by Spanish promoters.

On technical aspects, the main difference next year may well be tyres. Euroformula runs on Pirellis, Eurocup-3 will use a new compound from Hankook, and SF Lights is yet to name a supplier for after its current two-year deal with Kumho.

Since its launch in 2023, Eurocup-3 has done well to establish itself against the immensely popular FRegional European Championship with teams and drivers. Now it has its sights set on Euroformula, and arguably FIA F3 too, and what has been announced already about their 2026 seasons supports that.

2026 calendars

FIA F3 will support F1 for all 10 of its rounds next year, with street races in Melbourne, Monaco and Madrid’s new circuit.

The eight-round Eurocup-3 schedule will feature five of next year’s F1 tracks, including the planned ‘Madring’. Its race weekend there will take place in August, several weeks before F1 visits and will possibly make it the first ever championship to race on it. It will also visit Silverstone, which European series rarely visit due to having to ship cars to Britain.

Euroformula and the Formula Renault Eurocup (which used FRegional cars for its last two seasons in 2019 and ’20 before its assets were inherited by the FREC paddock) last raced there in 2019, and the all-female W Series only headed there in 2021 and ’22 due to being an F1 support and all of its entries being operated by a British team.

There are four F1 tracks on Euroformula’s 2026 calendar, since it has dropped the Red Bull Ring for a first ever trip to Misano.

In addition to a calendar, Eurocup-3 has announced it will have at least nine teams on the grid next year. Its four Spanish squads (Campos Racing, Drivex School, Global Racing Service and Palou Motorsport) will continue, along with Dutch outfit MP Motorsport, and stepping up from the Spanish F4 championship under the same promoter will be two more Spanish operations: Tecnicar Motorsport and the TC Racing team founded by goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois with the assistance of ex-F1 driver Roberto Merhi.

Total newcomers to the paddock will be British teams Double R Racing and Hitech GP, and Eurocup-3 aims to complete its grid with a 10th team.

Double R raced in Euroformula from 2019 to ’21, running future F1 and IndyCar drivers, and through its sister company Fine Moments ran all of W Series’ cars. Its last race outings were the final two rounds of the 2023 British F4 season, and it has been a test-only team since then.

Euroformula will continue with Dallara’s ‘324’ bodykit next season, and has shared pictures from the manufacturer as it produces six more of them to be ready for use later in 2025.

A new name in the GT Sport paddock, starting with next month’s round at the Red Bull Ring, is Roland Rehfeld. The long-time team manager and then sporting director of PHM Racing retained that role for its F2 and FIA F3 squads when they were purchased by AIX Investment Group last year and rebranded, but as of this week he is no longer working for the team and has moved into a team management position at Euroformula dominator Motopark.

The FIA has confirmed to Formula Scout that FREC will switch to Toyota engines next year that will be built by Autotecnica since a deal with Alpine – that included branding of the championship and its Renault engines – ends this season. Tatuus’s second-generation T-326 chassis is set to succeed the T-318 after seven seasons of use, and two following the introduction of an update kit to reduce the physical effort required to steer the car.

ACI Sport will continue to promote FREC, and the FIA will support the Italian motorsport federation by providing technical expertise and staff (such as stewards and technical delegates) while helping revise its sporting and technical regulations.
