Linus Lundqvist continued his dominance of Formula Regional Americas by adding another two wins to secure the title at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

Heavy rain cancelled qualifying, and the race grid was decided by championship positions. Further delays didn’t stop race one from running on Saturday, and all teams elected to begin on slicks.

Lundqvist immediately charged off into the lead and began to establish a significant gap, while Joshua Car pitted with damage to his front wing and ended up two laps down.

By the halfway point Lundqvist’s lead was up to 6.5 seconds as Victor Franzoni attempted to fend off David Malukas.

Lundqvist would take his 11th win of the season with an 11s lead over Malukas and Franzoni.

Race two began with another battle between Lundqvist and Malukas, but it was the Swede who would once again have the upper hand.

Despite being 19s back, Logan Cusson was having his best race of the season running in third place a couple of seconds ahead of Nicky Hays and Jacob Abel.

By the end of the race Lundqvist’s lead over the field increased ever more as James Roe unsuccessfully attempted to snatch fifth from Abel.

Malukas snatched the lead at the start of race three and began to build a gap over Franzoni and Lundqvist.

Lundqvist took a number of laps to get past the Brazilian, but Malukas’ lead was soon over five seconds. Further back Cusson fought with Dario Cangialosi for fourth.

Once past Franzoni, Lundqvist quickly established a gap over his rival as he attempted to close down this season’s only other race winner. Lundqvist found his groove and set a number of fastest laps.

With 16-and-a-half minutes remaining, Malukas locked up and went across the grass at Turn 2. The gap to Lundqvist was soon down to under a second at the line.

The gap remained stable and Malukas held on to take his second win of the season but it wasn’t enough to deny Lundqvist the title – his second in Formula 3 – while Franzoni came home a distant third.

Hunter Yeany secured the United States Formula 4 title at Homestead-Miami Speedway, as Jose Blanco-Chock took a double win.

The temperature may have been rising ahead of qualifying, but a number of drivers chose to delay their runs in order to let the track dry further after significant rain. Five drivers were in contention for pole, but ultimately it was Spike Kohlbecker who took the top spot ahead of Nicholas Christodoulou and Yeany.

The first race of the weekend was subject to delays due to the rain, and due to drainage issues at Turn 6 was then cancelled but then reinstated on the Saturday schedule.

But as it got underway, the rain returned. Kohlbecker led the early laps from Yeany, with Blanco-Chock down in sixth.

The rain soon fell harder and Nicholas Rivers skidded off track to cause a full course yellow.

On the restart Yeany had a sideways moment after hitting a puddle at Turn 1, but held on. Dylan Tavella took second place and team-mate Blanco-Chock was soon past Kohlbecker for third.

Blanco-Chock charged in pursuit of Yeany and made his way past as Yeany had another moment, this time at Turn 2. A second FCY brought the race to a close due to lightning.

Race two took place in dry conditions with Blanco-Chock once again leading Yeany and Kohlbecker. A FCY became a red flag though after Rodrigo Gutierrez and Rivers came together.

On the restart Yeany took the lead into Turn 1, but Blanco-Chock was back in front before the end of the lap. Further back Kohlbecker diced with Erik Evans and Tavella for third place.

The race ended under FCY once again, which eliminated Blanco-Chock’s four-second lead over Yeany, who sealed the title with second place. Kohlbecker held off Evans for third.

Yeany led the way in the final race, but Blanco-Chock was on his tail when a FCY yet again led to a red flag.

On the restart Blanco-Chock grabbed the lead from Yeany, but the two clashed and Blanco-Chock was sent off track.

Yeany soon came under pressure from Evans, but there were more FCY for debris. Blanco-Chock meanwhile was charging and in the closing laps took third from Christodoulou.

Hunter Yeany strengthened his lead at the top of the United States Formula 4 championship with a hat-trick of wins at Sebring.

After delays due to standing water, it was Jose Blanco-Chock who set pole position in an attempt to rescue his title hopes.

But it wasn’t to be for the Crosslink/Kiwi Motorsport driver as he was forced to start race one from the back of the grid due to an issue with his steering wheel.

The race was soon under a full course yellow, and subsequently a red flag, after Dylan Tavella lost control and – when sliding off track – collected Josh Sarchet.

When the race resumed, Spike Kohlbecker led ahead of Erik Evans, debutant Race Liberante and Yeany. Later Nico Christodoulou spun and required assistance, resulting in another FCY.

But at this restart Yeany caught the leaders napping and took the lead. Blanco-Chock charged through the field to take second, with Evans claiming his maiden podium in third.

Blanco-Chock was on pole for race two and built a early lead of a 1.5 seconds over Yeany.

Kohlbecker was forced into the pits with a brake issue from fifth place, after being in close contention with Evans and Jeremy Fairbairn for the podium.

Yeany soon set about closing down Blanco-Chock, and set fastest lap in the process. On the penultimate lap he took the inside line heading into Turn 1, and diced with the Puerto Rican, who went off track on the last lap and effectively handed Yeany victory.

Tavella and Cade McKee were 12s back in second and fourth.

Yeany started race three from pole but he couldn’t pull away as a FCY was needed to move Evans, whose car had been stopped by a mechanical issue. Debutant Vincent Khristov meanwhile ended in the pits with a damaged nose, and his team-mate Kohlbecker retired.

At the restart Christodoulou made a hard impact with the barriers, and that forced the race to go back under FCY to the finish. Yeany won, ahead of Tavella, McKee, Fairbairn and Blanco-Chock.

Tavella has a 90-point lead, and could win the title at Homestead-Miami Speedway next month.

Linus Lundqvist tightened his grip on the Formula Regional Americas Championship as he added two more wins to his name at Sebring.

Rain on Friday night delayed qualifying, but that wasn’t enough to stop championship leader, and rookie, Lundqvist from taking his fourth consecutive pole position.

But it wasn’t plain sailing for the Swede in the first race of the weekend.

Lundqvist led early on, but it was Danial Frost and David Malukas who soon took over at the front.

Lundqvist soon lost more positions to reigning US Formula 4 champion Joshua Car and Victor Franzoni.

Malukas and Frost had built a lead of eight seconds over Car, but this was wiped out due to a full-course yellow. Malukas held on to take his maiden win, with Franzoni nicking third place from Car.

Lundqvist’s run of eight consecutive wins was brought to an end thanks to his engine cover departing his Global Racing Group entered Ligier JS F3, as he was classified in sixth.

More rain on Saturday night caused more standing water, and the remaining two races were also delayed.

Malukas initially led the second race from pole, but was hunted down by Lundqvist.

An accident at Turn 7 involving Frost, Jordan Missig and championship debutant Kyffin Simpson brought out the red flag.

The race resumed with Malukas holding the lead as Lundqvist battled with Franzoni for second, with Jacob Abel not far behind.

Malukas then spun out of the lead, rejoining 13 seconds down to Lundqvist.

The 2018 BRDC British Formula 3 champion went unchallenged to claim his ninth race win, with Franzoni in second and Abel taking his first podium of the season in third place after Car fell down the order.

After their accident in the second race, Frost and Missing did not take the start for the third race.

Lundqvist led from the start once again, but the race was soon under a full-course Yellow after Car stopped with a broken left-rear suspension at Turn 7 after making contact with Abel. Abel pitted to have his car checked, but rejoined without losing a lap.

Lundqvist soon pulled a gap of two seconds over Franzoni and a further second on Malukas.

Once again Lundqvist went unchallenged by his rivals and he took his 10th win of the season by 2.5 seconds ahead of Franzoni and Malukas taking another podium despite being over seven seconds behind the winner.

James Roe took his best result of the season in fourth, and Abel recovered to finish fifth.

Lundqvist will have his first chance to secure the title at Homestead-Miami next month.

Andretti Autosport will join the FIA’s single-seater pyramid to Formula 1 by racing in Formula Regional Americas this year with Danial Frost.

The title-winning IndyCar team intended to run Frost this year in its successful Indy Lights squad, but the season was called off after just one free practice session as a result of pressures caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

Singaporean racer Frost was a race-winner last year in Indy Pro 2000, the series immediately below Indy Lights, and was linked to a return to the category after Indy Lights’ cancellation. He and the team have now chosen FRegional Americas instead.

“I am excited to be taking part in the Formula Regional Americas series this year,” said Frost.

“It’s a new car for myself and the team, which will be challenging for both of us. I believe in our capability and am looking forward to what we will be able to do this year.”

This year’s FRegional Americas champion will receive a Honda-funded scholarship to enter the 2021 Indy Lights season.

Andretti will be on the grid when Indy Lights returns, and will continue to test the Dallara IL-15s it uses in that series this year. Its entry into FRegional Americas is a coup for regional Formula 3 series.

“Given the circumstances that postponed the Indy Lights season, and many other events across the world, we as a team were tasked to find a way to keep our Indy Lights drivers fresh in the race car,” Andretti president J-F Thormann said.

“We see that the FR Americas series and Danial are going to be a great pair and we are excited to see what he can do in Round one at Mid-Ohio.”

Andretti’s other Indy Lights drivers have no confirmed replacement race programmes.

IP2000 and FRegional Americas champion Kyle Kirkwood is unlikely to return to either series, and still has a scholarship to enter Indy Lights in 2021, Megennis has already decided on racing in Indy Lights in 2021 and may focus solely on testing this year, and one-time Super Formula starter Tristan Charpentier is currently based in Europe.

The team won the inaugural driver and team titles in 2018 with Kyle Kirkwood, with Jacob Abel as a part-time team-mate.

Last year Abel remained at his family-run team and won twice at Road Atlanta, but was fourth in the points after missing two rounds. He will contest a third season in the championship this year, and be partnered by 19-year-old Blake Upton.

The second-year driver from Global Racing Group, who he took three top five finishes with last year and also raced for in United States Formula 4 in 2018.

“I had a great year last year in F3R Americas,” said Upton. “I had a great test with Abel Motorsports in January at Roebling Road in Georgia and we gelled quickly. I think we?ll be great together.”

This weekend he will get back in one of Abel’s car for pre-season testing at Barber Motorsports Park. The track is one of four still with a date on the disrupted 2020 calendar, following the Viriginia International Raceway season opener in July.

“It?s unfortunate that the world, and the sport, is in this situation [with the season delayed due to the COVID 19 pandemic],” Jacob Abel said.

“I?ve never been more prepared than I am this year. We?ve done a lot of preseason testing. I?m very confident, after scoring my first pro wins in F3R Americas last year, and I?m looking forward to more.

“Blake [Upton] has tons of potential; we saw that last year. He?s a really great asset for our team and we can help him develop a lot as well. He?ll push me to get better.”

Will Edwards, son of team founders Toney and Kimberley and a former Midgets racer, remains with the family-run team for his second full season after taking a best finish of 14th last year.

“In 2018, when I started in F4, I had zero kart experience and was off the pace,” said Edwards.

“I still have far less experience than others but feel I am making strides forward. Decreasing the gap to the leader with each weekend has been my goal, and I have been doing that. I have set new goals for 2020 and can’t wait to get the season started.”

Successful karter Will Holtz will make a full-time move to single-seaters with Alliance, having made a winning debut in the Lucas Oil Formula Car Race Series at the end of last year.

“I am super excited to join Alliance Racing,” Holtz said. “After seven years of karting, I am ready for a new experience and challenge.

Team owner Toney Edwards added:?”Will joined us at a recent test in Texas and quickly adapted to the team and car. He was comfortable in the car and that showed in his lap times. A few more days of testing before the start of the season are planned, and we can’t wait for the first green flag of 2020.”

The least experience addition to Alliance’s line-up is David Dalton Jr, who had one year of karting under his belt before racing in Lucas Oil FCRS in 2019. He took a win, then joined US F4 for the final two rounds with Group-A Racing and took a best finish of 12th.

“Though the timeline of my racing career is short, I?ve made sure to prepare myself accordingly to be ready for an opportunity like this and?to be able to work with such a dedicated team,” said Dalton.

“I?m thoroughly excited because I know the team will always make sure to provide the resources I need to excel and extract everything I can out of the car. I have nothing but optimism joining Alliance for 2020. I made my debut in F4 with a car that was good enough for me to show what I can do out the box, and Alliance Racing noticed my performance.

“In so many ways, they showed they have the confidence in my driving and my character to bring me onto their team. I have that same confidence in them, when I look at their 2019 results and the progress they have made this off-season.”

The Canadian graduated to the championship from United States Formula 4 last year, and took his first and only podium in just his second start. However he didn’t finish in the top five again and slipped down to 11th in the standings.

“I was able to do a lot of driving last year in several different types of cars,” said Vaccaro.

“I added to my skillset, and I think that will be beneficial in 2020 success. Additionally, working with Momentum Motorsports is like working with family. These guys put their heart and soul into my car and speed, and I want to thank them with wins.”

Momentum’s owner Phil Picard added: “We are very pleased to have Kent back behind the wheel.

“Kent had some high points in 2019 and had great pace at several events. As a team, we are committed to success and have worked harder than ever this off-season.

“We have our goals set high and will push to achieve them in 2020. At the end of the day, the ultimate goal is to be named the FR Americas Champion.”

In US F4 there have also been several additions to the grid, with Primus Racing signing karting champion Jeremy Fairbairn and retaining Aidan Yoder, while Hayden Bowlsbey has been retained at Alliance Racing to partner David Burketh.

The seasons for both championships are due to start on June 5-7 at United States Grand Prix venue Circuit of the Americas.

The start of the 2020 FIA Formula 2 and Formula 3 seasons have been further delayed after the FIA postponed three more Formula 1 grand prix events.

All three events at Zandvoort, Barcelona and Monaco were due to take place in May, and follows on from the FIA?s postponement of racing in Bahrain because of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

The FIA F2 season is now not set to begin before Baku on 6-7 June, and the FIA F3 season won?t start prior to the Red Bull Ring on 4-5 July.

A statement from the FIA read: ?In view of the continued global spread of COVID-19 and after ongoing discussions with Formula 1 and the three promoters, it has today been confirmed that the Formula 1 Dutch Grand Prix 2020, Formula 1 Spanish Grand Prix 2020 and Formula 1 Monaco Grand Prix 2020 will be postponed.

?Due to the ongoing and fluid nature of the COVID-19 situation globally, the FIA, Formula 1 and the three promoters have taken these decisions in order to ensure the health and safety of the travelling staff, championship participants and fans, which remains our primary concern.”

The Monaco postponement means the Formula Renault Eurocup round which supports the grand prix will also be off.

?The FIA and Formula 1 continue to work closely with affected promoters and local authorities to monitor the situation and take the appropriate amount of time to study the viability of potential alternative dates for each Grand Prix later in the year should the situation improve.

?The FIA and Formula 1 expect to begin the 2020 Championship season as soon as it is safe to do so after May and will continue to regularly monitor the ongoing COVID-19 situation.?

A number of tests were scheduled for F2 and F3 around the coming events, with F2 supposed to test at Barcelona on April 7-9 and F3 at the Hungaroring on April 14-15 and at Barcelona on May 28-29. Those tests have now been cancelled too.

The competition is open to those from Belgium and the Netherlands aged between seven and 60 who do not already hold a motorsport license, with three different prizes on offer.

The prizes are a season in Spanish F4, a Ford Fiesta Sprint Cup season and year-long entry to club competitions at the Strijen go-kart track.

The four age categories are 7-11 years, 12-15 years, 16-25 years and 26-60 years old. Each one can have a maximum of 100 participants.

The winner from the 16-25 age category will race in Spanish F4, although if they are over 20 years old and/or taller than 1.85m, they will instead win a Ford Fiesta Sprint Cup season with Bas Koeten Racing.

To enter the competition each entrant pays a proportion of the winner?s entry fees for the entire season in their chosen category. The cost is ?5450, including 9% VAT.

“We have given many talents their first racing kilometers,” said MP Motorsport’s team manager Sander Dorsman.

?We are happy to grant that opportunity to everyone in the Netherlands and Belgium. Who knows what unknown racing talent lies in the Benelux!

?But racing is expensive, so how do you get enough budget for that? With the MP Motorsport Competition we have found a smart solution: everyone pays a small piece, from which you, as the winner, fully benefit.?

Participants must progress through five rounds to win the prize.

The first round features all drivers using a simulator, with the fastest 50 progressing. Those who don’t progress receive a ?500 discount on entering again the following year.

Drivers then take to a track for two laps in a 125cc kart, with 27 moving onto the knock-out round which then narrows down to five drivers.

After the karting rounds the winner from the younger age categories will be chosen to win a kart, race clothing and a season of club competitions at the Strijen go-kart track. No fewer than 10 drivers under 11 and five under 16 will be chosen.

The final five then gain their race licence and drive the Ford Fiesta. Their test day concludes with a qualifying simulation, and the fastest two drivers progressing to the final. The final round is a two-day test in the Ford, before a winner is chosen.

?Really everyone can participate: boys and girls, men and women, from 7 years old to 60 years old. That is the great thing about the MP Motorsport Competition,? added co-organizer and former GP2 driver Daniel de Jong.

?For a relatively well-arranged amount you have the prospect of a fully paid racing season in motorsport. Start a crowdfunding campaign, go around with family and friends, attract sponsors. There is no more accessible way to start motorsport!”

Registration for the competition closes on April 6.

British team Carlin is also offering a prize test day this year for Britian’s Ultimate Karting Championship IAME X30 Senior champion, and automatic entry to the second British F4 Scholarship Day.
