Alexander Ruta and Arjen Kraling were the winners of Formula Winter Series’ second and third races around Valencia’s Ricardo Tormo circuit.

Drivers’ second-best laptimes from qualifying set race two’s grid, putting Van Langendonck on pole. The laptime used was 0.001 seconds slower than the one that earned him pole for race one.

Van Amersfoort Racing’s Ruta qualified second, 0.171s behind, with Pedro Lima (VAR), Ludovico Busso (US Racing), Thomas Bearman (VAR), Jensen Burnett (Mathilda Racing) and Rocco Coronel (VAR) filling the next places on the grid.

Ruta and Lima either side of Van Langendonck at the start, and at turn one Ruta took the lead on the inside while Lima passed on the outside. The team-mates ran side-by-side through turn two, and Coronel was into fourth but got spun by Bearman which led to the latter being penalised five seconds.

Ruta went off into the gravel exiting turn five kept the lead and actually began pulling away despite lock-ups. He was 1.4s clear when the safety car was summoned on lap three due to AKM Motorsport’s Vittorio Orsini crashing out. Coronel had also retired from the race, and Rodin Motorsport’s Alfie Slater was at the back after pitting.

The field was bunched up at the last corner by Ruta before the lap six restart, which he nailed to build a 1.9s lead within a lap. He was unchallenged thereon, taking his maiden victory.

Lima went off exiting turn one on the restart, allowing Van Langendonck to dive down his inside at turn two. There was a lock-up, contact, Lima went off again and Bearman went past both on the inside of turn three. Bearman held onto second place despite his penalty, and Lima got back past Van Langendonck on lap 11 of 13 but then a track limits penalty demoted him to seventh.

Van Langendonck completed the podium, and was hounded by Busso after Lima, and US’s Ary Bansal won a lengthy pack battle with Burnett for sixth before his own five-second track limits penalty was applied and put him ninth.

Cram Motorsport’s Oscar Repetto was another to be penalised but retained 10th place as the drivers behind also got penalties.

Arjen Kraling set the fastest lap in a lapped 29th place, putting him on race three pole ahead of Bearman, Ruta, US’s Olexandar Savinkov, Bansal and Slater. Van Langendonck lined up 12th, and Coronel was last. Kraling and Savinkov had been late to leave the pits for race two so they could focus on taking the fastest lap.

Ruta got alongside Kraling on the run to the opening corner of race three, but had to tuck in behind as they went through the corner. Bearman held third, Slater lost four places while fighting, and Coronel broke his front wing so had to pit.

The safety car then came out due to Cram’s Andre Rodriguez crashing out, and racing resumed on lap four. Kraling was unchallenged up front, and when a second safety car period was called for on lap nine after Jenzer Motorsport’s Levi Arn crashed he was left with two laps of racing.

There was no change in the top four, completed by Savinkov, and initially Bansal was fifth ahead of Lima and Busso. Lima had to hold off Busso several times, and when he saw the opportunity to pass Bansal into turn 11 on the penultimate lap he took it. Busso also then got past as Bansal nursed front wing damage, and after the second restart Van Langendonck rose from 11th to ninth with clinical overtakes. Coronel recovered to 15th, three spots behind Slater.

Dries Van Langendonck won race one of Formula Winter Series’ third round at Valencia’s Ricardo Tormo circuit.

There were new faces on the grid, and Eric Poulsen replaced Victor Snebjoern Poulsen (of no relation) at AS Motorsport. Caitlyn McDaniel and Jensen Burnett joined Mathilda Racing’s line-up, with Mathilda Paatz absent due to F1 Academy testing.

Two days of pre-event testing preceded the event getting underway, and US Racing’s Ary Bansal set a 1m34.511s to the top the times. He led team-mate Olexandar Savinkov by 0.174 seconds, Van Amersfoort Racing’s Rocco Coronel by 0.236s and Rodin Motorsport’s Van Langendonck by 0.311s. Alexander Ruta (VAR), Chiara Battig (Campos Racing) and Oscar Repetto (Cram Motorsport) also lapped sub-1m35s.

An announcement was put out at the end of Friday, stating “Circuit Ricardo has cancelled all activities scheduled for tomorrow, Saturday 14 February, due to a weather alert for strong winds”. That led to a revised schedule and qualifying kicking off a compressed Sunday timetable with races being shortened.

The blustery conditions continued, and Van Langendonck topped qualifying to claim race one. His late 1m34.817s lap put him on top by 0.154s. Ruta was second, and Burnett pipped US’s Ludovico Busso to third by 0.001s as both trailed the poleman by 0.27s.

VAR’s Pedro Lima, Thomas Bearman and Coronel were split by 0.073s in the next three positions, and Bansal was 0.492s off the pace in eighth. A second covered the top 18.

Burnett’s strong qualifying result was undone at the start of race one as he stalled, and Coronel was in second by turn one. He tried a diving move on Van Langendonck at turn six, then the safety car was called due to Campos’s Zoe Florescu Potolea crashing out. Cram’s Max Kammerlander and Andre Rodriguez also retired after heading to the pits.

Bearman had got into fourth ahead of Busso, Lima and Rodin’s Alfie Slater before racing was neutralised, and on the lap four restart Ruta had to defend third place against Bearman into turn one. At the next corner there was room for Bearman to aim for Ruta’s inside, and his team-mate went off slightly but kept ahead through turn four as the top two pulled away.

Busso sought to pass Bearman around the outside at turn seven, then at turn 10 they collided. While Busso only dropped to ninth, behind Bansal, Slater, US’s Noah Killion and Rodin’s Ethan Lennon, Bearman fell to 17th.

Van Langendonck ended lap five with a 1.1s lead, and grew it to 1.7s before Coronel closed back in late on despite pressure from Ruta.

Slater had a queue of cars behind him in the race’s second half, and was attacked by Killion on the penultimate lap. That bunched up the pack behind and Busso slipped past Lennon. He then overtook Killion too, and when Lima went off at turn one on the last lap it looked like Bansal could start a fight for fourth too.

Positions were maintained, and Bearman only recovered to 15th after getting stuck behind Battig for many laps. Burnett made his way up to 21st, and had a clash with Jenzer Motorsport’s Markas Silkunas on his way up the order.

F1 Academy held an in-season test this week, before several of its drivers headed to Valencia’s Ricardo Tormo circuit to gain Formula E mileage.

The all-female Formula 4 championship tested at Bahrain on October 28-30, with a morning and afternoon session each day.

Hitech GP was without Aiva Anagnostiadis, who recently had left foot surgery, and Rachel Robertson took her place after debuting in single-seaters with Hitech in Saudi Arabian F4.

Absent from the test’s third day were frontrunners Chloe Chambers (Campos Racing) and McLaren junior Ella Lloyd (Rodin Motorsport), as both will drive in FE’s women’s test tomorrow.

They will be with Envision Racing and Mahindra respectively, and are not the only junior single-seater talents taking part.

Nissan will run its simulator driver Abbi Pulling, the 2024 F1 Academy champion, who came 10th in GB3 this year.

Jamie Chadwick was third in the 2025 European Le Mans Series after her race-winning 2024 Indy Nxt campaign did not take her to IndyCar, and she will reunite with Jaguar who she has tested with since 2020.

The Cupra-partnered Kiro Race Co. team will provide running to its development driver Bianca Bustamante. She was 22nd in GB3 this season.

Maya Weug (MP Motorsport) topped every session of F1 Academy’s test. On the first morning her benchmark laptime was a 2m04.930s, set on just her second flying lap, and she posted a 2m04.773s in the afternoon to lead title rival Doriane Pin (Prema) by 0.167 seconds.

There were spells of inactivity in the morning, with several drivers without a laptime halfway through the three-hour session.

Chambers, Lloyd, Pin and Weug all spent time on top in the afternoon before representative laps were set, with Alisha Palmowski (Campos) first to do so. Weug outpaced her by 0.001s with 11 minutes to go, then Pin went fastest. But Weug broke into the 2m04s and beat her morning benchmark. Palmowski was over half a second behind in third, with Alba Hurup Larsen (MP) fourth.

Nina Gademan (Prema) led the way early on Wednesday morning, then Pin was fastest. Weug moved to the top with a 2m05.191s shortly before Larsen stopping on track caused red flags.

Pin reclaimed top spot after the restart, then Palmowski and Weug lapped sub-2m05s. Joanna Ciconte (MP) was next to be quickest, but Weug bettered her by 0.098s with a 2m04.567s. Chambers and Palmowski were also close to the pace, while Lloyd caused further red flags with an off.

More drivers made it into first place during the afternoon session, and Larsen laid down a 2m04.613s which looked unbeatable until Weug went quickest by 0.056s in the final hour.

Weug punched in a 2m04.873s early on Thursday morning, improved to 2m04.171s then found another 0.021s. Larsen was second in the session, 0.63s behind.

It was Weug on top almost all the way in the afternoon. She posted a 2m04.993s on her second flying lap, which she improved upon by 0.001s far later to have a 0.214s gap over Larsen.

Spanish Formula 4’s penultimate round of 2025 at Valencia’s Ricardo Tormo circuit concluded on Sunday with a victory for Rene Lammers.

The grid for race three was set by the event’s second qualifying session in the morning, and G4 Racing’s Karras brothers were the surprise early pacesetters.

MP Motorsport’s Niklas Schaufler set the first sub-1m35s lap, but was only ahead for eight seconds before Tecnicar Motorsport’s Andrej Petrovic posted a 1m34.694s.

TC Racing’s Alfio Spina beat that by 0.03 seconds just five seconds later, but Petrovic responded on his next lap with a 1m34.34s.

Ean Eyckmans was the next driver to top the times, a 1m34.203s briefly putting him ahead before MP team-mate Reno Francot went fastest by 0.095s.

His benchmark stood for a minute, then Schaufler broke into the 1m33s. Francot managed the same next time by, and went 0.01s quicker than Schaufler.

Their team-mate Lammers then came to the fore, posting a 1m33.906s to topple Francot by 0.026s then improving to 1m33.818s.

But that still was not enough for pole, and late on Campos Racing’s Thomas Strauven set a 1m33.787s to make it three out of three for the weekend.

His team-mate Jan Przyrowski went third fastest with his final lap, 0.14s off pole, and Petrovic improved to be sixth behind Francot and Schaufler. Eyckmans, team-mate Hudson Schwartz and Campos’s Noah Monteiro were also within 0.3s of Strauven’s pace, with a second covering the top 29 in the 35-car field. Spina had all of his laptimes deleted.

Pole position was on the outside, and the drivers on the inside made the better starts in the race. Lammers got alongside Strauven, and Francot drew level with Przyrowski. Both made passes into turn one, but Przyrowski reclaimed third around the outside at turn two and tried passing Strauven there too. However that then let Francot get ahead of him again.

Lammers began pulling away on lap three, growing his lead to 1.2s, and he was two seconds clear after nine laps. In the race’s second half he steadily pulled further, and led home champion Strauven by 4.238s.

Przyrowski kept Francot’s mirrors filled, but was never close enough to think about passing despite finishing just 0.181s behind him.

Schaufler dropped behind Petrovic, Eyckmans and Schwartz on lap one, and Rodin Motorsport’s finished ninth after making two opening lap moves and then overtaking Campos’s Noah Monteiro on lap five. He went down his inside at turn one, and they were wheel-to-wheel until turn two where Tye got ahead.

There was more overtaking outside of the top 25, while Drivex School’s Christopher Feghali took the fastest lap in 31st place after a lap two pitstop. His team-mate Kaiden Higgins had to pit several times, and other team-mate Stepan Suslov ended his race there, while Monlau Motorsport’s Alexander Jacoby stopped on track on lap three and finished 32nd.

Thomas Strauven won the first two Spanish Formula 4 races of the weekend at Valencia’s Ricardo Tormo circuit, and wrapped up the title with five races to spare.

He started on pole for race one on Saturday, and already had a gap up front by the time he reached the opening corner. It was an easy day thereon, finishing 2.585 seconds clear of Campos Racing team-mate Jan Przyrowski to become champion.

Ean Eyckmans overtook MP Motorsport team-mates Rene Lammers and Reno Francot on lap one for third, then soaked up pressure from Lammers — who was Strauven’s closest rival — for the rest of the 20-lap race.

Campos’s Vivek Kanthan jumped two spots to sixth on the opening lap, while MP’s Niklas Schaufler dropped down the order and later had an incident with Rodin Motorsport’s Kyuho Lee that led to the latter losing their rear wing.

On lap nine, Monlau Motorsport’s Lorenzo Campos spun after lap nine contact with Global Racing Service’s Alexandar Bogunovic.

The only overtake in the top 18 after lap one was when Rodin’s Nathan Tye overtook Campos’s Miguel Costa for ninth on lap two, and post-race nine track limits penalties were issued.

Strauven claimed his ninth victory of the season in race two, which was the 200th race in Spanish F4 history.

He made a flying start from pole, as fellow front row man Pzyrowski bogged down and had to defend from Francot. He squeezed him onto the grass, as Eyckmans and Lammers went side-by-side to their right.

Lammers took second into turn one, ahead of Przyrowski, and Eyckmans had fourth place secured by turn three.

Tye and TC Racing’s Alfio Spina crashed out at turn five while battling for 12th, and at turn six Tecnicar Motorsport’s Wiktor Dobrzanski mounted the top of Rodin driver Emma Felbermayr’s car.

The safety car was summoned, and Drivex School’s Christopher Feghali became the fifth retiree when he pitted at the end of the lap.

Racing resumed on lap five, and Strauven could not shake off Lammers. He usually had a gap of around 0.6s, but it was down to 0.43s entering the 15th and final lap as he locked up into the downhill last corner.

Lammers was never close enough to force Strauven into defence though, and they finished 0.683s apart. Przyrowski was a further 1.845s back.

Lee broke his front wing on lap six and did not see the chequered flag, with Bogunovic stopping terminally at the side of the track and Drivex’s Ricardo Baptista crashing out on lap 13.

Thomas Strauven took a double pole in Spanish Formula 4 qualifying at Valencia’s Ricardo Tormo circuit on Saturday.

The day kicked off with practice, and Campos Racing’s Jan Przyrowski set a 1m33.681s to be quickest by 0.09 seconds.

A quarter of the 35-car field spent time at the top once flying laps were being set during the 40-minute session, which was split in two by a red flag period caused by Tecnicar Motorsport’s Aleix Pinera crashing out at turn four.

Pinera is making his single-seater debut this weekend, having finished 17th in the IAME Winter Cup and come 18th in IAME’s Euro Series on X30 Senior karts this year, while 2024 French F4 runner-up Yani Stevenheydens has joined Global Racing Service’s line-up.

He came 13th in the 2025 Spanish F4 Winter Championship then 21st in Eurocup-3’s winter series and is currently 16th in its main championship after doing the first two rounds.

Stevenheydens ended practice in 24th, the first driver to be over a second off the pace. MP Motorsport’s Rene Lammers was Przyrowski’s closest rival, with Strauven (Campos), Ean Eyckmans (MP), Andrej Petrovic (Tecnicar), Vivek Kanthan (Campos) and Reno Francot (MP) also all within a third of a second of him.

Drivex School’s Christopher Feghali topped the timesheet several times but ended practice in 11th.

Qualifying was in the early afternoon, and TC Racing’s Alfio Spina was quickest at first. He led Pinera a third of the way through the 20-minute session, then Pinera improved to 1m35.331s but Strauven moved to the top as he went 0.554s faster than him.

He was not ahead for long, as MP’s Hudson Schwartz set a 1m34.676s. MP’s Juan Cota (MP) and Przyrowski completed a top five covered by a second.

Strauven responded on his next lap with a 1m33.827s, putting him 0.459s clear of Cota, with Przyrowski a further 0.048s behind.

Francot began the session’s second half by edging ahead of Cota by 0.014s, and improved again on his next lap. But Strauven did the same, posting a 1m33.813s to remain on top by 0.22s. Lammers and Przyrowski were less than 0.05s behind Francot.

Przyrowski later cut Strauven’s advantage to 0.113s, and Cota demoted Francot to fourth by 0.001s.

Strauven and Przyrowski made 0.001s gains with five minutes to go, and found more pace on their next laps. A 1m33.69s kept Strauven ahead by 0.086s, as Lammers set two 1m33.9s laps to take and then hold third place.

Nobody improved at the end, locking in a top five featuring Cota and Francot, and also the race two grid set by drivers’ second-best laptimes.

Strauven earned pole for that race by 0.222s over Przyrowski, with Lammers a further 0.019s back while Cota and Francot were fourth and fifth again.

Eyckmans was the top rookie, and will start sixth for both races, with a second covering the top 22 in qualifying.

MP Motorsport’s Juan Cota was quickest in Spanish Formula 4’s in-season test at Valencia’s Ricardo Tormo circuit.

The 36-car field was split into two groups, each with six sessions. Group A kicked off proceedings on Wednesday, and Thomas Strauven set a 1m34.168s to lead Drivex School’s Gino Trappa by 0.391 seconds and Campos Racing team-mate Jan Przyrowski by 0.467s.

MP’s Rene Lammers lowered the pace to 1m33.927s in group B, going fastest by 0.221s over Tecnicar Motorsport’s long-time leader Andrej Petrovic. Cota improved late on to be third, a further 0.042s back.

Lammers had the logos of A14 Management on his kit, with the Dutchman’s career now overseen by the Fernando Alonso-fronted firm.

Strauven improved to 1m34.062s in group A’s second session, pipping Rodin Motorsport’s to top spot by 0.106s and Przyrowski by 0.115s. Trappa and Campos’s Vivek Kanthan and Noah Monteiro were within 0.3s of Strauven, woth 0.326s covering the top eight.

Lammers set another benchmark in group B, posting a 1m33.795s on his final lap to pip fellow late improver Cota by 0.051s and Petrovic by 0.334s. MP’s Reno Francot was fourth, 0.405s off.

Przyrowski topped group A session three, setting a 1m34.175s. He had a 0.107s gap to Trappa, 0.126s to Strauven then Kanthan, Monlau Motorsport’s Miki Blascos and Campos’s Matus Ryba were split by 0.009s in fourth to sixth and within 0.36s of the pace.

MP’s Ean Eyckmans ended the day with a big improvement, setting a 1m34.332s to top the last session by 0.03s. Lammers was second, Petrovic was 0.097s behind in third and TC’s Alfio Spina was another non-improver in fourth while Global Racing Service’s Yani Stevenheydens made gains to be fifth fastest.

Group B headed out first on Thursday, and on the penultimate lap of the first session Cota set a 1m33.728s that would go unbeaten. He was fastest by 0.264s over Eyckmans and 0.269s over Lammers. Just 0.031s covered the next four drivers, all within half a second of the pace.

Strauven, Kanthan, Przyrowski and Monteiro set personal bests at the top of group A’s first session and were split by 0.144s. A 1m34.037s earned Strauven first place by 0.043s.

Lammers found a 0.005s gain when group B returned to track, and led Cota by 0.021s. MP’s Hudson Schwartz improved by 0.401s to 1m33.976s and put himself third overall in the test. Francot was 0.26s back in fourth.

Trappa climbed the combined classification in the next session, setting a 1m34.237s to pip Strauven to top spot by 0.006s. Drivex’s Christopher Feghali, Arthur Dorison and Monlau’s Lorenzo Campos were within 0.2s of Trappa, and 0.5s split the top 12.

A 1m34.461s was enough to put Eyckmans on top of group B’s last session, by 0.062s over Lammers and with 0.117s in hand over Cota, while a 1m34.247s earned Kanthan first place in group A’s final hour on track. Monteiro and Strauven were just 0.005s and 0.066s behind. In the test’s overall classification, a second covered the top 30.

Hitech GP’s Leo Robinson was victorious in the third Formula Winter Series race at Valencia’s Ricardo Tormo circuit.

Some wheelspin off the line compromised US Racing’s poleman Gabriel Gomez as it had in race two, and Robinson went straight past him into the lead.

Gomez sought the outside line at turn one as an attempt at reclaiming first place, and got back alongside Robinson until both went off at turn two.

It took three laps for Robinson to build a lead of a second, then after that he and Gomez traded fastest laps for a while. There was 1.3 seconds between them on lap 13 when the safety car came out due to a crash.

AS Motorsport’s Sebastian Bach had made a diving move on Campos Racing’s Chloe Chambers, which worked, and Van Amersfoort Racing’s Gino Trappa had followed him through. Two corners later he went to the inside of Bach, who locked up. They made, with Trappa breaking his front wing and Bach being sent spinning into the gravel. Chambers reclaimed her lost places, as Trappa dropped down the order.

The restart took place on lap 16, and Robinson weaved in an attempt to break the tow to Gomez. He had previously had VAR’s Maximilian Popov on his tail, but this time shook him off as the third placed driver defended against US’s Kabir Anurag. AS’s Andrea Dupe, who had already been spun around by Chamber early on, got involved in a clash that led to the safety car coming out again, but racing could resume on lap 18.

There was no changes to the top 10 in the final laps of racing. VAR’s Dante Vinci was fifth, Jenzer Motorsport’s Emil Frey finished ahead of US’s Maxim Rehm thanks to a diving move that included a huge lock-up on lap four, and Hitech’s Fionn McLaughlin had an anonymous run to eighth.

US Racing’s Gabriel Gomez and Maxim Rehm won the first two Formula Winter Series races at Valencia’s Ricardo Tormo circuit.

Gomez was on pole for both and ended “a perfect” Saturday bu winning race one. He almost lost the lead at the start, and sweeped to the inside. Hitech GP’s Leo Robinson took to the grass in avoidance, but kept second ahead of Rehm (who was disqualified from round one’s three races due to a technical infringement). Van Amersfoort Racing’s Maximilian Popov tried passing US’s Kabir Anurag for fourth exiting turn two.

VAR’s Dante Vinci was sixth, but US’s Edu Robinson demoted Hitech’s Fionn McLaughlin to eighth at turn one on lap two and then passed him too. The safety car soon appeared due to Maffi Racing’s David Walther crashing out.

Racing resumed on lap five, and Jenzer Motorsport’s Enea Frey attacked McLaughlin. VAR’s Payton Westcott, who had already pitted for a new front wing, stopped on track but got going again and Campos Racing’s Alisha Palmowski retired in the pits with a crabbing car.

AKM Motorsport’s Joanna Ciconte was the next retiree, and Gomez was 1.7 seconds clear when the safety car returned on lap 12 due to Jenzer Motorsport’s Alba Hurup Larsen crashing at turn five.

The field was free to fight again on lap 14, and Anurag tried passing Rehm around the outside at turn one but struck the kerbs and went off. There was lots of side-by-side action, and not all of it was clean as McLaughlin squeezed off US’s formation lap staller Andrija Kostic.

VAR’s Gino Trappa lost several places, Maffi’s Kornelia Olkucka spun and an issue sent Edu Robinson down the order before the safety car returned on lap 15 as Cram Motorsport’s Ricardo Miranda Baptista stopped on track.

There was time for two more laps of racing. Rehm forcefully held off Anurag on the restart, and at turn one on the final lap Campos’s Chloe Chambers rear-ended Hitech’s Thomas Bearman, who was sent into the back of Jenzer’s Artem Severeiukhin as they fought for a point. The top seven was unchanged, and behind them were Kostic, Frey, Jenzer’s Bart Harrison and Trappa.

Gomez had wheelspin at the start of race two on Sunday, and Leo Robinson took the lead ahead of Rehm, McLaughlin and the poleman. Robinson made a mistake on lap two and Rehm got onto his tail, then the safety car appeared on lap five as Maffi’s Teo Borenstein was recovered from the gravel.

On the lap seven restart, Robinson and Rhem twice made contact before the latter took the lead. Rehm utilised a tyre advantage to pull away after that, and a five-second penalty for jumping the start dropped McLaughlin to eighth.

Anurag dived past Vinci on lap one, squeezed past Popov on lap 12 then set the fastest lap in fourth. Kostic pipped Vinci to the finish by 0.009s.

US Racing’s Gabriel Gomez will start all three Formula Winter Series races at Valencia’s Ricardo Tormo circuit this weekend from pole.

Gomez claimed pole for the first two races in Q1, and made it three out of three in Q2.

Jenzer Motorsport’s Enea Frey was fastest at first in Q1, then US’s Maxim Rehm moved ahead. Frey struck back with a 1m37.699s, but in his slipstream AKM Motorsport’s Guy Albag was able to go even faster. Frey improved again on his next lap though, lowering the pace to 1m34.686s.

It became a battle between Hitech GP’s Leo Robinson and Gomez after that. Robinson posted two personal bests, then Gomez was the first to break into the 1m33s. On the next lap, Robinson took back provisional pole by 0.011 seconds.

He found a further gain of 0.027s, but in the final minutes Gomez set a 1m33.711s and then improved to 1m33.573s after the chequered flag to take race one pole by 0.371s. Rehm was third, ahead of team-mate Kabir Anurag and Van Amersfoort Racing’s Maximilian Popov and Dante Vinci.

Hitech’s Fionn McLaughlin, who had topped pre-event testing, was only seventh fastest and his team-mate Thomas Bearman completed a top 13 covered by a second.

Drivers’ second-best laptimes set the race two grid, meaning Gomez was on top again by 0.26s over Robinson. Rehm, Vinci and McLaughlin were half a second slower than him in third, fourth and fifth, and Popov was sixth. Jenzer’s Artem Severiukhin, who was 11th fastest overall, qualified eighth.

Gomez was the 11th and last driver to make their way to the top of the times in Q2, and he clinched his third pole by 0.239s with a lap set four minutes from the end.

Robinson improved on his final effort to qualify second, ahead of Popov and US’s Edu Robinson. Anurag, Rehm and Bearman were closely matched in the next three places, and this time 14 drivers got within a second of Gomez’s pace.

New additions to the grid announced during the race week included Albag, VAR’s Gino Trappa and Cram Motorsport’s Ricardo Miranda Baptista. Trappa won once en route to fifth in the Brazilian Formula 4 standings last year, and is currently 20th in the Spanish F4 Winter Championship, Albag is making his single-seater debut after being WSK Champions Cup runner-up and 41st in the CIK-FIA European championship for OK karts in 2024, and fellow debutant Baptista is stepping up from Brazil’s karting scene.
