Saudi Arabian Formula 4 crowned its 2025 champion Kit Belofsky in this weekend’s season finale in Jeddah.

In free practice one on Friday, Ary Bansal set a 2m07.873s to lead Kit Belofsky by 0.209 seconds and Abdullah Kamel by 0.821s.

Joining the field but off the pace were Payton Westcott, fresh from becoming a Formula Trophy race-winner last week, and the Spanish F4-experienced Christopher Feghali. He replaced fellow Red Bull junior Scott Lindblom, who along with Adam Al Azhari exited title contention by being absent. That meant Belofsky was crowned on Friday morning.

In qualifying a few hours later, Bansal posted a 2m07.021s mid-session that earned him pole by 0.237s. Belofsky improved on his last lap to be second, Kamel was 0.585s off in third, Thibaut Ramaekers trailed by 0.645s and just 0.02s split Feghali and Esmee Kosterman in fifth and sixth. Rachel Robertson also qualified within a second of pole.

Bansal was initially able to keep Belofsky at bay in race one. Belofsky looked to Bansal’s outside at turn one on lap two, and was in his slipstream down the pit straight every time until lap five when he took the lead on the inside into turn one.

Once ahead, Belofsky frequently weaved down the pit straight until he had a one-second gap late on.

Feghali overtook Ramaekers on lap one, and on lap six forced Kamel into defending at turn one then slipped by at the final corner. Kamel tried getting back past when they reached turn one but cut turn two after running alongside and then had Ramaekers going wheel-to-wheel with him through the esses.

On lap eight, Ramaekers went around Kamel’s outside at turn one but cut turn two. His overtake stood, while Kamel got a five-second penalty for track limits abuse that dropped him from fifth to ninth. Nina Gademan inherited fifth after a lengthy fight with Kosterman, and Robertson retired after an early puncture.

In FP2 on Saturday, 0.041s split Belofsky and Bansal at the top. Feghali was only 0.166s behind in third, and the field looked more closely matched than previously. But in qualifying, Bansal romped to pole by 0.378s over Belofsky and with a gap of over 0.83s to Kamel and Feghali in third and fourth.

Belofsky and Feghali then got three-place grid penalties for impeding in qualifying, demoting them to fourth and sixth and lifting Robertson to third.

Race two began with Belofsky taking third and Feghali picking up race-ending damage, so the safety car appeared late in lap one and also led lap two.

Belofsky was already alongside Kamel when racing resumed so passsed him around the outside of turn one, as an incident there meant Chiara Battig was then pit-bound to retire and Kosterman lost her front wing. Gademan also pitted to retire.

Bansal mostly was in control thereon to win, although Belofsky attacked on lap seven when the battle for third also heated up. Ramaekers overtook Robertson for fourth on lap four, but she reclaimed it, and Ramaekers got ahead at the end of lap six by 0.031s. Robertson reclaimed fourth into turn one, then Ava Dobson began pressuring the pair.

On lap 10 they dropped her and caught Kamel, then it became a four-way fight. Robertson went deep into turn two on the last lap and conceded fourth, but got back past Ramaekers at the finish by 0.091s and was just 0.067s behind Kamel.

Two drivers won in round four of Saudi Arabian Formula 4’s season in Jeddah.

A 40-minute practice session kicked off the event on Friday afternoon, and Adam Al Azhari set a 2m07.542s to lead Lewis Wherrell by 0.038 seconds, Scott Lindblom by 0.17s and Kit Belofsky by 0.229s.

Wherrell lowered the pace to 2m06.948s in qualifying, a 20-minute session in the early evening, clinching pole by 0.115s over Belofsky. Al Azhari was 0.181s off in third, with Lindblom and Thibaut Ramaekers trailing by 0.555s and 0.805s.

It rained prior to race one late in the evening, so the field ran on wet tyres and had two formation laps to displace water.

Wherrell was very slow off the line, and Belofsky had wheelspin but took the lead on the inside while Al Azhari snatched second. Lindblom then went around Wherrell’s outside at turn two and with a bit of rubbing got ahead.

Al Azhari came under attack from Lindblom a few corners later, then again through turns 19 to 22 before a dive at the final corner.

Lindblom’s next passing attempt was the outside of turn two, with Al Azhari having defended down the pit straight and then on the run to turn four. At turns seven and 22 Lindblom looked again to get alongside, and at the final corner went for the outside but Al Azhari ran deep to cover him off.

Down the pit straight Al Azhari was defensive again, but through the rest of lap three the presure reduced. He ended lap three 3.3s behind Belofsky, and that gap grew to 5.495s as the track dried.

Wherrell began attacking Lindblom on lap four. They battled until lap 10 of 12, when Lindblom began closing in on Al Azhari again. They finished 0.138s apart.

A five-second penalty for track limits abuse while fighting Lindblom dropped Wherrell to fifth behind Ramaekers by 0.457s.

Esmee Kosterman passed Ava Dobson mid-race for sixth, Abdullah Kamel broke Megan Bruce’s defences with a great move through turns one and two on lap nine to take eighth, and Chiara Battig qualified sixth but finished 11th.

Saturday had an identical timetable, and Belofsky set a 2m07.357s to pip Wherrell by 0.167s in FP2.

Wherrell had the advantage again in qualifying, beating Belofsky to pole by 0.111s and Al Azhari by 0.24s. Lindblom was 0.339s off.

Belofsky wheelspun and dropped to third at the start of race two, and Lindblom then bravely got past him through the first esses. Wherrell led Al Azhari, who ran alongside him from turns two to four on lap two and later lost out to a diving move from Lindblom at the final corner of lap three.

Al Azhari quickly reclaimed second into turn one, then Belofsky nosed into Lindblom’s rear at turn two, causing a rear-right puncture that forced Lindblom to pit.

Al Azhari came under attack from Belofsky at the end of lap nine, and despite being squeezed on the inside down the pit straight Belofsky still got ahead into turn one. These battles allowed Wherrell to pull away, and he won by 6.617s.

Ramaekers was fourth, and Kamel passed Rahcel Robertson for fifth mid-race then fended off Kosterman through the last two laps to to keep the position by just 0.065s.

The inexperienced Lewis Wherrell starred in round three of Saudi Arabian Formula 4’s season in Jeddah.

Track action began on Monday afternoon with a practice session, and Wherrell — contesting his third single-seater race event after GB4 and Spanish F4 outings — set a 2m08.667s to be fastest by 0.14 seconds. Points leader Kit Belofsky was second, 0.014s ahead of Adam Al Azhari, and a second covered the top seven.

Qualifying was in the early evening, and Belofsky denied Wherrell pole by 0.011s. Abdullah Kamel was 0.569s off the pace in third, Scott Lindblom trailed by 0.68s in fourth and Al Azhari was 0.767s off in fifth. Three drivers were over three seconds slower than Belofsky.

Drivers had to wait until 10:30pm for race one, which took place under floodlights. Kamel and Ava Dobson stalled, while Esmee Kosterman jumped from eighth to fourth. Belofsky weaved down the pit straight at the end of lap one trying to break the tow, then seemed to have Wherrell out of attacking distance until lap five when he suddenly launched an attack on the outside entering turn 13 and got ahead.

Wherrell rapidly pulled away, and won by 1.694s. Lindblom closed in on Belofsky late on, as Kosterman lost fourth.

Al Azhari had fallen to ninth on lap one, and both he and Chiara Battig cleared Megan Bruce on lap 13 before he overtook Battig too into the final hairpin. Thibaut Ramaekers was several seconds ahead, and that gap reduced once Ramaekers began pressuring Kosterman. He overtook her at turn 13 on lap 10 of 12, and Al Azhari did so too a few corners from the end then drew alongside Ramaekers at the chequered flag and finished 0.074s behind.

There was a prolonged fight for 10th, with Faris Organji taking the position from Rachel Robertson after she ran wide at turn five but then spinning some corners later. Dobson got alongside Robertson several times later on, and cleared her on the last lap.

The same schedule was used on Tuesday, and in FP2 Al Azhari posted a 2m07.627s to lead Wherrell by 0.145s and Belofsky by 0.156s.

Al Azhari lowered the pace to 2m06.579s in Q2, and his advantage was trimmed to 0.041s by Wherrell. Belofsky qualified third, 0.323s off pole, Lindblom improved to be 0.465s off in fourth, with Ramaekers and Kamel the only others within a second of the pace.

There was pre-race drama as the starting lights failed to fully turn on and off properly on the grid, and Wherrell edged forward. The start was then aborted and another formation lap was set, with Belofsky initially unable to get going but catching the field after red flags waved.

Seven minutes in the pits followed, and the race started with the safety car leading the field out. When they were released at the end of lap one, the top two accelerated but then began weaving and both were penalised five seconds.

Belofsky went to Wherrell’s outside at turn one and remained alongside for two more corners, allowing Al Azhari to pull away by 1.7s within a lap. His lead grew to 2.4s, before Wherrell rapidly closed in through the last two tours.

More attention was on Lindblom, who pulled off a stunning pass on Belofsky through the esses on lap six and then remained within five seconds of Al Azhari. The gap grew and shrank lap by lap, and Lindblom won by 0.369s.

Belofsky fell five seconds behind him late on, so did not profit from the penalties, and Kosterman came seventh after lengthy pressuring of Battig led to a last-lap overtake.

Kit Belofsky extended his points lead in Saudi Arabian Formula 4’s second round at Bahrain.

There were two changes to the grid from round one three days prior, with Ary Bansal and Esmee Kosterman joining.

Adam Al Azhari was fastest in Wednesday’s practice, setting a 2m06.041s to lead Bansal by 0.781 seconds. Scott Lindblom and Belofsky were next, 1.15s off the pace.

In qualifying Al Azhari remained on top, his advantage reduced to 0.547s by Lindblom. Belofsky was a further 0.045s behind, with Theo Palmer 0.034s slower than him in fourth. Bansal was fifth, 0.832s off pole, and Battig was sixth but had a three-place grid penalty.

Al Azhari led race one lights-to-flag, creating a five-second lead before a safety car period left him with three laps to build it back up to 2.051s.

Palmer took third at the start, but Belofsky got back past into turn four and Bansal followed him past Palmer exiting it. Bansal then tried going around Belofsky’s outside at the last corner, which allowed Palmer to get on the inside for fourth.

They ran three-wide into turn one and Bansal grabbed third on the inside while Palmer passed Belofsky on the outside. But Belofsky reclaimed fourth through turn two.

He attacked Bansal through turn 11 on lap three, and on the outside of turn one on lap five. At turn four Palmer went around the outside of Belofsky, who masterfully moved back ahead through the downhill turn six.

Belofsky locked up into turn 10 but overtook Bansal, with Linblom four seconds ahead before the safety car appeared due to Battig and Megan Bruce crashing at turn 11. Battig, who had been attacking, got a five-place grid penalty.

When racing resumed on lap nine, Belofsky kept with Lindblom. Palmer clouted the kerbs as he tried Bansal’s inside into turn one, then nailed a turn eight dive but went off exiting turn 10 and was back in fifth.

Next time by, Palmer switched to the inside at the last moment to overtake Bansal into turn one but they had swapped places again by turn three.

Thereon Palmer had to defend against Thibaut Ramaekers, who had cleared Abdullah Kamel at turn one on his first attempt.

Al Azhari posted a 2m05.917s in FP2 on Thursday to lead Ramaekers and Belofsky by 0.320s and 0.502s respectively.

In Q2, Belofsky earned pole by 0.236s over Al Azhari. Palmer was 0.322s back in third, pipping Lindblom by 0.009s. Bansal and Ramaekers were next.

Belofsky went unchallenged in race two. Lindblom leapt up to second at the start. Palmer relegated Al Azhari to fourth, then forced him off on the straight before turn 11 where Al Azhari got back ahead on the inside.

Bansal and Kamel began lap two alongside Palmer, and Kamel made a triple pass into turn one. But he went off and rejoined down the order, while Bansal overtook Palmer.

Al Azhari locked up into turn one on lap seven, bringing Bansal onto his tail. He pulled off a move exiting the uphill turn 12 on lap eight, then Al Azhari dived down the inside at turn one. He got ahead, went too deep, and was back behind.

Palmer rubbed wheels with Al Azhari there on lap 10, overtaking on the outside. When Al Azhari took the outside at turn four, Ramaekers found space to pass into turn five.

Further ahead, Bansal caught Lindblom and they interlocked wheels entering the last lap. Bansal tried the outside of turn two, which became the inside for turn three and earned him second place. He then had to defend the position.

Saudi Arabian Formula 4’s second season began last week with a trip abroad to Bahrain.

Pre-season testing was on Friday, and Theo Palmer was fastest by just 0.002 seconds over Kit Belofsky. Adam Al Azhari and Scott Lindblom were 0.125s and 0.142s behind, and a second covered the top 11.

All of the cars, owned by championship promoter AlTawkilat, were operated by Meritus GP in 2024 and are being run by Hitech GP this year.

The season began on Saturday morning with a half-hour practice session, and Chiara Battig set a 2m07.393s to lead Palmer by 0.051s and Nina Gademan by 0.053s. Lindblom was 0.258s off in fourth.

Palmer comfortably returned the top in the day’s 20-minute qualifying session, claiming race one pole by 0.474s over Lindblom. Car racing newcomers Belofsky and Thibaut Ramaekers trailed by 0.635s and 0.699s respectively, with Gademan and Battig the only others within a second of pole.

Battig brought out red flags three minutes in by stopping at turn two. She restarted her car but stopped several more times.

Palmer swept to the inside at the start of race one, almost forcing off Lindblom who still squeezed into the lead at turn one. Belofsky retained third, Adam Al Azhari charged up from ninth to fourth, Faris Organji spun and Rachel Robertson crashed out. Late in the lap, Abdullah Kamel passed Gademan for fifth.

The lead was reclaimed by Palmer on the inside of turn one on lap two, and Belofsky pulled off the same move on lap five.

Palmer weaved down the pit straight the next two laps, and after failing at turn one Belofsky made a move stick on the inside of turn eight. Lindblom followed through after turn nine, and took the lead into turn 11. But he ran wide, and Palmer and Belofsky got back past. Belofsky became the leader again into the final corner.

Lindblom reclaimed second into turn one, then Gademan attacked Palmer at turn four but briefly lost out to Ramaekers.

At the last corner, Palmer passed Lindblom but they had swapped positions again by turn one. Belofsky broke clear, and at turn eight Palmer’s move down the inside broke off Lindblom’s front wing.

The safety car was called as lap 10 of 12 began, with Gademan ahead of Lindblom.

Palmer instantly got alongside Belofsky on the final lap restart, but Belofsky held his ground and won. Ramaekers went off at turn one, Gademan took second through turn six, and Kamel snuck past Lindblom exiting the last corner for fourth.

FP2 was on Sunday morning, and Battig set a 2m06.783s to be quickest. Gademan and Belofsky were 0.124s and 0.177s off her, and Palmer was 0.27s behind.

Al Azhari came to the fore in Q2, going fastest by 0.709s over Palmer. Ramaekers was third, 0.968s back, while Belofsky, Lindblom and Gademan were fifth, seventh and ninth.

Belofsky copped a 10-place grid penalty for speeding under red flag conditions, with Megan Bruce and Robertson each penalised three spots for speeding while yellow flags waved.

Ramaekers had wheelspin off the line in race two and lost out to Ava Dobson and a fast-starting Gademan, while Belofsky stalled.

Gademan and Ramaekers passed Dobson before the safety car was called due to debris. Bruce and Kamel needed new front wings, while Robertson retired when she reached the pits.

Racing resumed on lap three, and Dobson conceded places to Lindblom and Jacob Micallef. She was out of the race by turn five next time by, as Battig drove over her car.

After another safety car returned, racing continued on lap seven of 10. A recovering Belofsky went down the inside of Micallef at the last corner on lap eight for sixth, while Al Azhari gapped himself from Palmer to win.

The Saudi Arabian Formula 4 championship will return for a second season this year, with a five-round calendar.

Bahrain will host pre-season testing and the opening round this week, then a mid-week round two on October 15/16.

Next month there will be two rounds in one week, with races in Jeddah on November 10/11 and then November 14/15. The Saudi Arabian Grand Prix venue will also host the finale on December 5/6.

In the inaugural season last year, all cars were centrally run by Meritus GP, which previously centrally ran F4 South East Asia. Local company AlTawkilat will be championship promoter this year, but has not stated if it will directly run the cars.

There have been 10 drivers announced so far, a group consisting mostly of 15-year-olds and including Red Bull juniors Scott Lindblom and Chiara Battig who are single-seater newcomers.

Lindblom was fourth in entry-level sportscar series Ginetta Junior this year, and in 2024 primarily raced in the OK kart class. The Swede won the title WSK Euro Series title and came eighth in Champions of the Future.

His year started by coming 11th in WSK’s Super Master Series for OK Junior karts, and in that category he was previously third in the World championship, fourth in WSK’s Euro Series and 15th in the CIK-FIA European championship.

Battig joined the Red Bull Junior Team less than seven weeks ago, having previously been part of the Alpine Formula 1 team’s female-focused Rac(H)er programme in 2023, and steps up from karting.

She came 15th in the European championship for OK karts this year, with her rookie season in senior karting starting on a victory-contending high but then mostly lacking results. The Swiss was 29th in CotF, but on OK-N karts is currently second in the CotF Academy Program.

Making the same step this weekend is Thibaut Ramaekers, the 2025 CIK-FIA world champion on OK karts. The Belgian claimed that title last month, after being CotF runner-up and fifth in the CIK-FIA European championship.

His 2025 began on X30 Senior karts, coming fifth in the IAME Winter Cup.

Faris Organji, 17, is one of three local drivers confirmed for Saudi Arabian F4 and will be debuting in single-seaters. The other two locals are F4 Middle East backmarkers Abdullah Kamel (16) and Farah Al Yousef (23), the latter of whom was the wildcard driver in the all-female F1 Academy series when it visited Jeddah this year.

Nina Gademan also has track knowledge and F4 experience from F1 Academy, where she currently sits sixth in the standings. The 22-year-old from the Netherlands started this year by coming 15th in Formula Winter Series.

Heading to Saudi Arabia from GB4, which now sits above F4 in the single-seater ladder, is Indian racer Ary Bansal and Ava Dobson. Last weekend Bansal became champion and 17-year-old American Dobson claimed her first podium.

Rounding out the grid is Adam Al Azhari. The Emirati was sixth in British F4 and 10th in F4 Middle East this year.

There was plenty of F4 racing in 2024, with career-launching campaigns accompanied by winter warm-ups

Middle East

The go-to winter series for several years now has been Formula 4 United Arab Emirates, which races at Yas Marina Circuit and Dubai Autodrome. Prema’s Mumbai Falcons-branded cars were the ones to beat, and Italian F4 dominator Freddie Slater needed just two wins and four other podiums from 15 races to pip team-mate Kean Nakamura-Berta to the title.

Nakamura won the season opener in Abu Dhabi, which Yas Heat Academy’s Keanu Al Azhari started from pole, and Formula 3-bound Nikita Bedrin won for PHM Racing in the reversed-grid race. Slater won race three, and passed team-mate Alex Powell to make it two in a row in the opening race of round two. Al Azhari won the next two races, but Slater was on the podium in both to hold the points lead.

Bedrin turned pole into victory twice at Dubai, with Powell getting his sole win in the reversed-grid contest, and a double podium put Al Azhari on Slater’s tail in the title fight. A return to Abu Dhabi spiced up the season narrative in round four.

Prema’s Doriane Pin won race one from pole after on-the-road victor Nakamura was penalised for jumping the start, and Al Azhari and Slater collided on lap one. Although he was demoted to fifth, Nakamura still boosted his title chances.

Hitech GP’s Gabriel Stilp came through from sixth on the grid to dominate a wet race two, and all three title contenders failed to score. The weather was unpredictable for race three, and led to a mix of strategies. Al Azhari took the points lead by finishing third, as Prema’s Rashid Al Dhaheri won and neither Slater or Nakamura finished.

Nakamura took a double pole in the final round at Dubai, and after winning a dusty race one ahead of Al Dhaheri there was now a five-way title fight as his two main rivals could only finish fifth and ninth. R-ace GP’s Enzo Deligny won the reversed-grid race, Slater pipped Al Azhari to fourth to become his main rival and Nakamura stayed in contention by scoring two points.

Al Dhaheri immediately passed Nakamura for the lead in the title-deciding race three and all but ended his hopes since Slater was sat behind him in third. Focus then switched to Al Azhari, who lost the title to Slater by finishing eighth.

Running concurrently to F4 UAE was the inaugural Saudi Arabian F4 season, where all cars were run by Meritus GP. Federico Al Rifai won twice in the first round at Kuwait Motor Town (in Kuwait), while in round two at the circuit, Saqer Almaosherji, Al Rifai, Andrej Petrovic and Suleiman Zanfari shared the wins. Retrospectively it was made a non-championship event, so Qatar’s Losail circuit instead hosted round two in March and Al Rifai took another double.

Eventually races actually took place in Saudi Arabia, and three rounds were held in Jeddah over the course of 11 days. Petrovic took the points lead by winning twice in the first of the triple-header events, with Al Rifai’s title ambitions hurt by missing a race. However he moved back ahead with his own double in the next round, and when the results of race one in the final round was taken back by a lap [without explanation] it handed Al Rifai another win at the expense of Petrovic.

Although Petrovic won the final race, it was too late as Al Rifai wrapped up the title the day before in a race won by Zanfari.

Over the last month there has been further F4 action in the UAE with the Formula Trophy. Al Dhaheri was the star of round one at Dubai, remained unbeaten in qualifying for round two in Abu Dhabi but for the second time lost a win to a penalty, and then skipped round three. A double podium earned Evans GP’s Kai Daryanani the crown, but Prema’s Sebastian Wheldon stole the headlines with his race one win.

Spain

Formula Winter Series featured a combination of drivers warming up for Italian F4 and Spanish F4, and MP Motorsport’s Griffin Peebles was champion of the four-round tour of Spain. Jerez was more wet and wild than warm-up, and the wins went to Andres Cardenas (Campos Racing), Peebles and Juan Cota (Drivex School).

Cardenas left with the points lead, but further chaos at Valencia’s Ricardo Tormo circuit put Peebles ahead. Cardenas won a red-flagged race one, Peebles was victorious in a delayed and safety car-filled race two and US Racing’s Matheus Ferreira led home Peebles in race three. James Egozi appeared on the grid with Campos at Motorland Aragon, and was announced as joining the Red Bull Junior Team. He proved worthy of his Formula 1 backing by taking pole and a win, while Al Azhari came over from the UAE to do the same with MP. Rodin Motorsport’s single-seater rookie Thomas Strauven won race two.

Storms at Barcelona limited track action until race two, which Peebles won from pole. He was victorious again in race three to seal the title. MP’s Maciej Gladysz was third in the points, and would be the most competitive of FWinter Series’ full-timers in Spanish F4.

His team-mate Lucas Fluxa won twice in the opening round at Jarama, but actually crashed out of the second race he won, then never had another competitive showing over the season. Al Azhari came to the fore at Algarve in Portugal, then team-mate Mattia Colnaghi was dominant in the first two races at Paul Ricard in France. Gladysz won the third, and took another two at Aragon before Al Azhari returned to the top step of the podium to hold a sizeable points lead.

Cota went unbeaten at Valencia, and while Al Azhari and Gladysz both made the podium they also retired in race one due to colliding and each had another non-score. Colnaghi’s two podiums made him a more likely title contender, and he stepped up to that status by being the form driver thereon.

He won twice at Jerez to become points leader in theory, but Al Azhari also claimed a victory and went into the final round 13 points ahead after winning an appeal against a penalty at Aragon. In race one at Barcelona, Colnaghi soaked up a lot of pressure from his rival for another win, then moved ahead on victory countback by winning race two, before a track limits penalty for Al Azhari cost him a podium and handed Colnaghi a big advantage going into the decider.

Cota cruised to victory, not quite enough to deny Gladysz third in the points. Al Azhari had another off-track moment and this time went penalty-free despite moving ahead of Colnaghi, who became champion in fifth as Al Azhari came home third.

Two weeks prior, Valencia specialist Cota had claimed the Motorsport Games F4 gold medal at the track. He was pipped to pole by 0.007s in a damp qualifying session, but then won the qualification and main race.

North America

Starting, or rather ending the F4 action on this continent is NACAM F4 since the first three rounds of its 2024-25 season have already taken place. The Mexico-based series had issues with its switch from first to second-generation F4 chassis, delaying its season start by over four months and making it a multi-year schedule, and Jose Carlos Hernandez leads the way so far.

He won from pole in both races of the F1-supporting first round, team-mate Helio Meza bettered him twice at Autodromo Miguel E. Abed, and Alessandros Racing’s partnership with Campos Racing contributed to former W Series racer Nerea Marti joining their garage in round three this month. Hernandez took two more wins in Mexico City, but Marti pushed hard and took the second F4 win of her career.

United States F4 has also had an uneasy switch to Gen2 machinery, cancelling its first round and averaging just seven cars this season. The Australian drivers, Atlantic Racing Team’s Daniel Quimby and Crosslink/Kiwi Motorsport’s Nicolas Stati, and the latter’s New Zealander team-mate Alex Crosbie, were usually fighting each other for victories and Quimby (who went unbeaten at Mosport in Canada) took the crown by just 4.5 points over Stati.

The older cars continued to run in the Ligier JS F4 Series (previously known as Formula Development), which had bigger grids and far more entertaining action. Scuderia Buell’s Teddy Musella won a third of the races and the title, and Crosslink/Kiwi’s Kekai Hauanio denied him pole twice and took four victories and four second places to be runner-up in the standings.

Fifth in the standings was Brad Majman, another of Crosslink/Kiwi’s Australians, and he went unbeaten at New Jersey Motorsports Park.

The same car is used by Formula Pro USA for its F4 Western championship, which cancelled its one-round winter series and also did not go ahead with its planned ‘Women Racing Series’ classification for female entrants. Majman and World Speed Motorsports’ Valentino Garbarino shared the wins in the first two rounds at Thunderhill Raceway Park. Kiwi’s Drew Szuch was the only other driver in round one, and World Speed’s Alexander Cornfeld their sole rival in round two.

Laguna Seca held the next two rounds, the first of which only featured Cornfeld and Garbarino. They took a win each, then Garbarino went unbeaten on the return visit as the grid grew to five cars. Jensen Global Advisors’ Athan Sterling finished second twice, and did the same at Sonoma Raceway where he finished last to newly crowned champion Garbarino.

Four drivers turned up to the Buttonwillow Raceway finale, and Garbarino led home Sterling twice more. Cornfeld finished third in race one, enough to earn him second place in the standings over the absent Majman.

The Skip Barber Formula Race Series ran using Mygale’s Gen1 car, and the title went to Andretti Global junior Oliver Wheldon. After a stellar karting career in the USA, the single-seater rookie wone nine races out of 14 but only very narrowly became champion since third-year driver Dean Lambros was just as consistent. He won four races and took four poles, and was only off the podium once while Wheldon went trophy-free twice. USF Juniors-bound Ryan Giannetta was the other winner.

Asia

The Honda versus Toyota battle occurs in Japanese F4 each year, and in 2024 it was a Honda one-two as Yuto Nomura was near unbeatable in the season’s second half and fellow junior Ryota Horachi consistently saw the podium to be title runner-up.

Despite the rivalry, it is the Toyota-linked TOM’S that is the spec engine supplier and its units were the big talking point of round one as 10 drivers were ruled out of race two at Fuji Speedway due to engine issues. After Toyota junior Yuki Sano won race one, Helm Motorsports’ Tosei Moriyama got the chance to turn his pole into victory with far more ease due to the absence of many of the drivers who would become the usual frontrunners.

Nomura won both races from pole at Suzuka, Horachi and Drago Corse’s Hironobu Shimizu came out on top of a 37-car field on the return to Fuji, with Horachi taking the points lead, then Sano doubled up at a soaking wet Sportsland SUGO but only got points for one of those victories as he won a one-lap race.

The championship belonged to Nomura following that, going unbeaten at Autopolis (where rain caused a race to be cancelled) and Twin Ring Motegi then taking a fifth win in a row in the postponed Suzuka round that ended the season. That secured him the title, and Kageyama Racing’s Kotaro Shimbara rose to third in the standings by winning race two.

Chinese F4 was as entertaining as ever, while also mostly going overlooked outside of China. However it was a teenager from Sweden who beat all the locals to become champion. An F1 support slot at Shanghai attracted 27 cars to the season opener, and Blackjack Racing’s Alex Sawer and Fukang Jiang took the wins.

Venom Motorsport’s Oscar Pedersen won twice at Tianfu International Circuit, then had seven consecutive podium finishes at Ningbo and Shanghai to remain atop the standings while wins went to title rival Kaishun Liu (Black Blade Racing), Jiang, the returning Sawer and cameoing Mercedes-AMG F1 junior Yuanpu Cui.

The title fight went down to the final race at Zhuhai, with Pedersen and Liu each taking a win and a second place in the preceding two races. Black Blade’s Yuhao Fu dominated, his weekend lifting him from 10th to fourth in the points, Liu finished second with a diving penultimate lap pass and Pedersen became champion by finishing not far behind in fourth.

MP ran all cars in Indian F4, and ex-F3 racer Hugh Barter crushed the opposition at Chennai in round one.

The new Chennai Formula Racing Circuit, a temporary venue that had been a long-term ambition for the series and was designed to be raced on at night, hosted round two and Barter dominated from pole again in race one. That was held in the early evening, but race two was a proper night-time contest and Aqil Alibhai was victorious after forcing long-time leader Divy Nandan into a mistake on the last lap.

Barter did no more races, and on the return to the other Chennai track the points lead went to Alibhai as four different drivers won. Triple-headers at Kari Motor Speedway concluded the season in the final version of the calendar, with Alibhai going unbeaten in the first one then being crowned champion in a wet second visit to the track as Ruhaan Alva concluded a nine-race podium streak with two wins and a comfortable championship runner-up spot since Jaden Pariat was absent.

Australia

Currently in limbo is whether the opening FTrophy round also doubled up as the Australian F4 season finale. Originally ran from 2015 to ’19 by Motorsport Australia, the national championship was revived by new promoter Top Speed this year with second-generation Tatuus cars. The Bend Motorsport Park hosted rounds one and two, Sydney Motorsport Park had round three as the cancelled Queensland Raceway event went unreplaced, then the season was due to conclude with races at Malaysia’s Sepang circuit and at Dubai. The latter was down to Top Speed also promoting FTrophy.

But two weeks before the planned finale, the reveal of the all-Australian 2025 calendar was accompanied by the announcement that the AGI Sport team would take over as promoter and older cars would be reintroduced. Since then, Formula Scout has been unable to get a response from either promoter on the Dubai round’s championship status.

Regardless, the title was already settled by then as AGI’s James Piszyck had won the first nine races on home soil then did the minimum required to wrap it up at Sepang as Tiago Rodrigues, Cooper Webster and Daryanani won.

The older cars (both the Mygales previously used in Australian F4 and Tatuus chassis from abroad) were kept in use through 2024 in the AF04 class of the Formula Libre-style Australian Formula Open series. Car racing rookie Isaac McNeill (Volante Rosso) and Jayden Hamilton (Tim Macrow Racing) each contested five rounds out of seven, and McNeill went unbeaten in class until the final race at Phillip Island where Lachlan Evennett won. Evennett had taken a triple win at The Bend when he was the only entrant, with Hamilton doing the same at Sydney. McNeill took the title with ease thanks to his 13 wins.

Europe

F4 Central European Zone grew in popularity for its third season, and there was a big on-track rivalry between Jenzer Motorsport and Maffi Racing. Both titles went to the former, as Oscar Wurz became champion with a campaign built on consistency. He only won twice, both victories coming at the Slovakiaring, but 12 other podiums were enough for him to beat Maffi’s Kirill Kutskov who won at Balaton Park, Autodrom Most, Brno and then went unbeaten in the Salzburgring finale.

There were five other race winners, but Jenzer’s title outsider Max Karhan was the only full-timer amongst those. He took three victories on home soil in the Czech Republic, and compatriot Miroslav Mikes won at Most. The JMT Racing driver came fourth in the standings despite withdrawing from the final round, meaning AS Motorsport’s Michalina Sabaj was the only other driver to start all the races. Her best result en route to fifth in the points table was a fourth place.

The F2000 Italian Trophy had an F4 class this year, and Sergio Conti won it eight times.

F1 Academy

Supporting F1 at seven grands prix was the all-female F1 Academy, which was dominated by Rodin’s Abbi Pulling. The Alpine junior, a podium-finisher in Formula Regional when racing in the all-female W Series two years ago, was never off the podium and took nine wins, four second places and a third.

Mercedes junior Pin was best-of-the-rest in her first full year of single-seater racing after previously being a sportscar star, starting the season on top in Jeddah and winning two further times to be way ahead of Prema team-mate Maya Weug.

The battle in qualifying was slightly closer, with Pin taking five poles to Pulling’s 10, and she took four fastest laps in races while Pulling took six despite spending most of her time in clean air at the front.

Marti took four podiums to edge MP’s Hamda Al Qubaisi to fourth in the points table, her team-mate Chloe Chambers won race two at Barcelona after Pulling had an airborne moment and Williams F1 junior Lia Block – an established rallying and rallycross driver in the USA who is the daughter of late off-road motorsport star Ken – came eighth in her first full single-seater campaign.

Federico Al Rifai became champion of the inaugural Saudi Arabian Formula 4 season with a race to spare in Jeddah.

He got the job done in the reversed-grid race, which he started from 11th place after Faisal Al-Kabbani failed to start. Abdulaziz Abuzenadah was on pole, ahead of Suleiman Zanfari, Jabor Al-Thani and Abdullah Al Qubaisi whose car failed to move off the line.

Al-Thani stalled but did get going after, and then lost further ground by ccutting turn two, while Abuzenadah jumped the start to earn himself a 10-second penalty.

Although Abuzenadah had a big gap to second place by turn one, he ended the opening lap a distant third as Zanfari raced away into the lead and Saqer Al-Maosherji got into second place.

Battles behind meant nobody challenged Zanfari thereon, and he won the 10-lap race by 2.833s.

Kirill Kutskov took third from Abuzenadah exiting turn two on lap two, and started pressuring Al-Maosherji on lap five. He made a very late move at turn one on lap six and it led to both missing turn two and holding their positions.

Al-Maosherji had to get defensive a few more times in the remaining laps and stayed ahead, but a 10s penalty for causing a collision dropped him down to eighth in the final results.

Title rivals Al Rifai and Andrej Petrovic went either side of Amna Al Qubaisi at the last corner on lap two to get into fourth and fifth, and did plenty of battling.

Petrovic utilised the inside line to lead Al Rifai into turn one on lap three, and did the same on lap five. Al Rifai cut turn two on lap seven and got ahead, but then tacked back in behind as Omar Aldereyaane got onto their tail.

He went off at turn two again on lap eight attempting a move, and now a pack of cars was behind. Settling in behind Petrovic proved safer thereon, and fourth place secured him the title. Oscar Wurz came from the back of the grid to finish fifth.

Al Rifai beat Petrovic to pole for the finale, but the latter immediately took the lead. Al-Maosherji and Abdullah Al Qubaisi both stalled and fell to the back.

Kutskov took third from Hamda Al Qubaisi at the last corner on lap two, and Aldereyaane passed Amna Al Qubaisi for fifth moments later.

There were no changes to the top nine after that, with Petrovic winning by 1.586s and Kutskov completing the podium 7.672s behind.

A race control decision denied Andrej Petrovic victory in the first race of Saudi Arabian Formula 4’s final round in Jeddah, with points leader Federico Al Rifai profiting.

Petrovic topped practice by 0.071 seconds over Kirill Kutskov, then led qualifying by 0.096s over Al Rifai. Kutskov, Hamda Al Qubaisi and Omar Aldereyaane were the only others within a second of the pace.

Kutskov stalled at the start of race one, with Petrovic immediately sweeping to the inside to defend the lead. Abdullah Al Qubaisi tried getting inside of Saqer Al-Maosherji at turn one but lost his front wing, and turn two was cut by Faisal Al-Kabbani and Suleiman Zanfari.

Hamda Al Qubaisi got into second at turn two but Al Rifai quickly reclaimed the position and then attacked Petrovic at the turn 13 hairpin. That failed, and soon Al Qubaisi was running side-by-side with Petrovic.

However Al Rifai was back into second again at the last corner, and began lap two fighting a late-braking Petrovic for the lead. Al-Kabbani came barreling down the inside at that corner and clattered into Al Qubaisi, and Al-Maosherji rode over the back of Jabor Al-Thani’s car and lost his frong wing before stopping in the run-off.

Aldereyaane got into third before the safety car was summoned, as Al Qubaisi retired and sister Amna did the same due to a deflated rear-right tyre.

Racing resumed on lap four and Al Rifai challenged Petrovic until he was passed by Aldereyaane, then by Kutskov too. Kutskov ended the lap in second, and soon the safety car was back out as Al-Kabbani hit the barriers exiting turn two.

His car was moved in time for a lap seven restart, and Al Rifai reclaimed third by going down the inside of Aldereyaane at the last corner. The top three broke away, and Al Rifai went around the outside of Kutskov at the final corner of lap 11. He then passed Petrovic there, with contact being made twice, on lap 12 to lead by 0.008 going into the last lap.

Kutskov was just 0.039s behind and they went three-wide into turn one for the last time. Petrovic regained the lead, and Al Rifai held second as he cut turn two. They finished 0.121s apart, with Kutskov 0.823s behind in third and Zanfari 2.106s back in fourth after he passed Aldereyaane.

However the results were taken back by a lap, without explanation from the series organisers, meaning Al Rifai won ahead of Petrovic, Kutskov, Aldereyaane, Zanfari and Oscar Wurz. There were only thre other finishers, and all ended the race alone on track.

Saudi Arabian Formula 4 organised a three-race round in Jeddah for the night of April 1, and it set up a three-way title showdown.

Saqer Al-Maosherji pipped Kirill Kutskov to top spot in qualifying by 0.087 seconds, with Federico Al Rifai 0.13s behind in third.

Al-Maosherji failed to get going at the start of race one and everyone avoided his car. Kutskov quickly established a lead, and points leader Andrej Petrovic passed Omar Aldereyaane for fourth at the end of the lap.

The safety car appeared on lap two due to Hamda Al Qubaisi striking trouble. After racing resumed, Petrovic tried passing Oscar Wurz for third on lap five and on lap seven Al Rifai attacked Kutskov and passed him at turn two.

Kutskov got back past a few corners later, ending the lap 0.014s ahead. Wurz then passed Al Rifai around the outside of turn two as Kutskov defended the lead. Later the safety car then appeared as Al-Maosherji spun, with time afterwards only for one more lap of racing.

Al Rifai took second at turn one, and Petrovic also got past Wurz later in the lap but the Austrian reclaimed the position from him as Kutskov won.

Abdudllah Al Qubaisi started on race two’s reversed-grid pole, and Abdulaziz Abuzenadah immediately swept past into the lead. Faisal Al-Kabbani passed Jabor Al-Thani for third then got rearended by him at turn two.

There were wheel-to-wheel battles at the end of the lap, and Abuzenadah led into turn one next time by but turned too tightly and Al Qubaisi moved back ahead. Al-Kabbani resisted Wurz, then went down the inside of Abuzenadah at the turn 13 hairpin and attacked the leader at the final hairpin.

The top three were three-wide starting lap three, and Al-Kabbani cut from the middle to the inside to take the lead. Al Qubaisi soon fell behind Al Rifai, and was saved by the safety car appearing as Abuzenadah dropped out.

Petrovic passed Al Qubaisi on the lap five restart, and his sister Amna went side-by-side with him until they collided. He got a 10s penalty and she was barrier-bound.

Al-Kabbani and Petrovic disputed the lead at the last corner, but it was Al Rifai who ended the lap 0.022s ahead of Petrovic just as the safety car returned. Following the next restart, Al Rifai held on for two laps to take victory and the points lead.

The chequered flag was mistakenly shown when the race clock hit zero, rather than when Al Rifai completed the last lap, so the results were taken back a lap. That handed Al-Kabbani third ahead of Al-Maosherji and Kutskov.

Al Rifai took the lead from Al-Maosherji at the start of race three as Petrovic stalled. Aldereyaane passed Al-Maosherji on lap two by cutting turn two, and forced him off as he rejoined. He was then pressured by Wurz, but he stopped on track and the safety car was needed.

Petrovic got himself back up to fifth on the restart lap, then fought with Al-Maosherji before the latter started chasing Aldereyaane again. That led to Petrovic and Hamda Al Qubaisi overtaking both, and Petrovic cut turn two to pass Aldereyaane.

A three-wide move at turn four resulted in Al-Maosherji and Aldereyaane going off, Aldereyaane spinning back onto track and into Petrovic, who was then driven over the back of by Al Qubaisi. Alderyaane got a five-place grid penalty and the safety car led the field until the last lap, with Al Rifai winning again.
