ART Grand Prix’s Maciej Gladysz left it late to top the afternoon session on day one of FIA Formula 3’s post-season Barcelona test.

There was a busier start than in the morning, with Trident’s Noah Stromsted first to set a flying lap six minutes in.

Rodin Motorsport’s Brando Badoer bettered that a minute-and-a-half later with a 1m29.928s, which team-mate Christian Ho got within 0.261 seconds of. At this point half of the field was on track, and 20 drivers had set laptimes after 17 minutes.

Pedro Clerot completed a Rodin lockout of the top three 26 minutes in, and soon after Trident’s Freddie Slater went fifth fastest.

The top six were in the pits at the half-hour mark, while Gladysz and the Hitech GP and Prema drivers had still not recorded laptimes.

Gladysz put one down 44 minutes in, and four minutes later Hitech’s Jin Nakamura and Fionn McLaughlin became the last to do so. By then more than half of the field had returned to the pits, and once up to pace the Hitech pair sat eighth and ninth.

Hitech’s Michael Shin and Gladysz had the track to themselves as the second hour began, and only a few drivers headed out at a time after that. Most who did were on long runs, although Nakamura did go fifth quickest.

Approaching the halfway point, MP Motorsport’s Tuukka Taponen and Alessandro Giusti slotted into second and third, 0.089s and 0.216s off Badoer, and team-mate Mattia Colnaghi jumped from 26th to sixth before AIX Racing’s Brad Benavides demoted him a spot.

He lost two more later in the hour when Prema’s Louis Sharp and James Wharton got within 0.4s of Badoer, before joining the rest of the field in the pits.

With 46 minutes to go, Taponen usurped Badoer by 0.404s. Giusti lapped 0.355s shy of his team-mate’s pace, then Wharton cut Taponen’s gap to 0.176s. Enzo Deligny made it three Prema drivers in the top seven by going fifth fastest, while most of the field remained in their garages.

Gladysz entered the top 10 with 31 minutes remaining, and two laps later rose to third with a 1m29.8s. That became fourth with 23 minutes left on the clock, as DAMS’ Gerrard Xie got within 0.055s of Taponen.

Red flags then interrupted proceedings, before a flurry of improvements eight minutes from the end.

Van Amersfoort Racing’s Hiyu Yamakoshi set a 1m29.473s to go quickest, and 10s later Colnaghi beat him by 0.228s. Giusti lapped 0.134s off the new benchmark, then Campos Racing’s Theophile Nael lowered the pace by 0.027s.

His team-mate Ernesto Rivera set a 1m29.070s, 0.148s quicker than Nael, and Trident’s Matteo De Palo demoted Yamakoshi to sixth.

Gladysz crossed the line with seven minutes to go and posted a 1m29.003s that would go unbeaten as team-mate Taito Kato set a 1m29.218s in fourth.

Ho and Clerot improved in fifth and seventh, and in the last four minutes Campos’s Ugo Ugochukwu jumped from 25th to third, 0.197s off Gladysz’s pace.

Polish racer Maciej Gladysz will step up to the FIA Formula 3 Championship next year with ART Grand Prix.

The 17-year-old has little under two years of single-seater experience under his belt to date, and will be moving one rung up the ladder after racing in Formula Regional-based championships through 2025.

Gladysz became a member of the Sauber Formula 1 team’s karting offshoot in 2021 after starring on mini karts, and that year he won the FIA Karting Academy Trophy. In 2022 he won Champions of the Future’s winter series, was WSK Euro Series runner-up and fourth in the CIK-FIA World Championship on OK Junior karts, then stepped up to the senior OK class in 2023.

His transition to single-seaters last year came with MP Motorsport, who ran him in the Formula Winter Series and Spanish Formula 4. Gladysz came third in both, with three podiums in his first ever car racing campaign and then going on to claim three victories and five other podiums in his main programme.

He remained with MP this year as he stepped up to Eurocup-3, and has continued to taste success. In the winter series he won the title with two victories and three other podiums from eight races, and in the main championship currently sits ninth in the points with one race win. With one round to go he remains in contention to make the top five in the standings.

“Stepping up into the FIA F3 Championship with the ART Grand Prix team is a dream come true,” said Gladysz.

“I’m very grateful for this opportunity and proud to make my F3 debut with such a successful squad. I immediately felt at home in the team and can’t wait to start this new chapter of my career. I’ve learned a lot in 2025 and shown that I have the speed to make that next step for 2026.

“I always aim high and I’m ready to continue working hard and keep improving as a driver. I would also like to thank all our partners who made this step possible and all the amazing fans who supported me along the way.”

MP Motorsport’s Maciej Gladysz took a dominant victory in the second Eurocup-3 race at the Red Bull Ring after taking the lead on the first lap.

Thereafter, Gladysz was able to control the gap to race one-winning team-mate Mattia Colnaghi and finished with over five seconds in hand to him.

Campos Racing’s Jules Caranta was slow away from pole position, allowing a faster starting Colnaghi to draw alongside on the run down to turn one, despite Caranta’s efforts to block him.

Caranta got a faster exit, slotting into the slipstream on the uphill run to turn three before diving to the inside. As the pair ran wide, the door opened for Gladysz to nip through to grab the lead.

Gladysz and Colnaghi immediately began to ease away from Caranta and his fellow Red Bull junior, Ernesto Rivera, with Campos’s Kacper Sztuka and MP’s Valerio Rinicella tucked in behind.

Far from being able to challenge his team-mate, Colnaghi was dropping further back as Gladysz took command.

Caranta was a similar distance behind Colnaghi, as Rivera held up the pursuing group which had been joined by Enzo Tarnvanichkul who had steadily made his way through from 10th on the grid.

Sztuka dropped two places in two laps mid-race, promoting Tarnvanichkul to sixth but he was unable to progress further.

On the penultimate lap, Rinicella was on Rivera’s tail through turns three and four, finally finding a way past into the following left-hander. Rivera then came under pressure from Tarnvanichkul.

Past the pits the two Red Bull juniors were side-by-side, and Tarnvanichkul took the position on the inside. However, Rivera was not going to give up and looked to fight back up to turn three.

Sztuka, having dropped to seventh, took advantage of the battling group to get back into their slipstream and pulled off an outstanding move to outbrake both into turn three on the final lap, holding his line despite a slight lock-up as he grabbed the inside.

Palou Motorsport’s James Egozi beat MP Motorsport’s Maciej Gladysz to victory in the final Eurocup-3 winter series race at Motorland Aragon, but Gladysz took the title.

Mattia Colnaghi went into the race level on points with team-mate Gladysz at the top of the standings, while Egozi trailed by 23 points after scoring two for claiming pole in the morning.

Gladysz had been just 0.042 seconds shy of pole, and Colnaghi had a disastrous session in which he was over three seconds off the pace and only 23rd fastest.

Egozi made a great start to lead Gladysz into turn one, with MP’s Valerio Rinicella and Andres Cardenas chasing the top two and with Campos’s Jesse Carrasquedo Jr behind them.

MP’s Kai Daryanani stalled and fell to the back, and team-mate Alexander Abkhazava was already losing ground before he ended up facing the wrong way and dropped outside of the top 20.

Egozi’s lead wavered between 0.8 and 1.1 seconds until lap eight, when it was slashed to 0.667s by Gladysz. He then sat less than 0.6s behind Egozi for several laps, with the leader responding slightly on lap 12. He then managed to manage his gap, and on the penultimate lap snatched the point for fastest lap from Rinicella. But he reclaimed it on the final tour, and Gladysz comfortably claimed the title when he met the chequered flag 0.791s behind Egozi.

Cardenas and Carrasquedo passed Rinicella on lap one, then Carrasquedo briefly cleared Cardenas too on lap two as Red Bull juniors Ernesto Rivera and Enzo Tarnvanichkul clashed behind.

Once Cardenas got back past, he was unable to shake off Carrasquedo and they finished the race 0.786s apart in third and fourth. On the penultimate lap, Carrasquedo had attacked Cardenas into the final chicane.

Rivera made a diving pass on Rinicella there on lap three, and two laps later Tarnvanickhul made his own lunging move on him. MP’s Emmo Fittipaldi aimed to get through too but then fell to 10th, as Palou’s Adam Hideg profited to demote Rinicella another spot.

Rinicella was back into seventh by the end of the lap, ahead of Red Bull junior Jules Caranta, Hideg and Fittipaldi, and thereon he and Rivera were two of the fastest drivers on track as they traded fastest laps.

They ultimately held their positions to the chequered flag though, and there was not much overtaking behind either in the race’s second half. Colnaghi recovered to 13th, with Drivex School’s Oscar Wurz weaving to keep him behind late on,

Fittipaldi retired in the pits, and Palou’s Isaac Barashi finished four laps down due to a technical issue.

MP Motorsport’s Maciej Gladysz had a perfect Saturday in the last round of Eurocup-3’s winter series to set up a winner-takes-all final race at Motorland Aragon.

In qualifying, the Pole claimed pole by setting a 1m52.511s. He was fastest by 0.249 seconds over team-mate Alexander Abkhazava, with Campos Racing’s Jesse Carrasquedo Jr a further 0.005s behind.

MP’s points leader Mattia Colnaghi was fourth fastest, and also within half a second of pole were Campos’s Ernesto Rivera and Palou Motorsport’s James Egozi. The two points Gladysz earned meant he entered race one 26 points behind Colnaghi.

What followed was a great drive by Gladysz, who nailed the start to lead easily into turn one. Abkhazava meanwhile locked up going into the chicane at the end of the lap. After quickly building a gap of 1.68 seconds, his lead was reduced as Palou’s Zack Scoular stopped off-track on lap two and the safety car was summoned as his vehicle was retrieved.

Before racing was neutralised, Carrasquedo had attacked Abkhazava and Colnaghi had cleared MP’s Andres Cardenas after dropping four places on lap one. Another driver on the backfoot was MP’s Valerio Rinicella, who started 25th and made it to 20th.

Following the lap five restart, Gladysz had a lonely race in which he set the fastest lap multiple times. He faced a challenge late on though, as Carrasquedo snatched the fastest lap from him on the penultimate tour. Gladysz responded by taking it back by 0.012s as he met the chequered flag for a maximum score.

Carrasquedo had to cover off Egozi on the restart, with Rivera on their tail. Once again Abkhazava locked up into the final chicane, and Rivera had a moment which led to him losing ground to the drivers ahead.

Abkhazava ran wide entering the back straight on lap seven, giving Carrasquedo the opportunity to get alongside on the outside. He looked to be ahead, but Abkhazava braked late, had another lock-up and retained second place. It was only brief, as Carrasquedo moved past at the next corner.

It only took a lap for Egozi to pressure Abkhazava into another mistake and dive past at the chicane, but Abkhazava reclaimed third with a great move around the outside at turn one on lap nine. They fought for a few more corners before Egozi was left with a train behind him. There was chaos at the chicane, as Abkhazava locked up once more, and Colnaghi tried going down the inside of Rivera but sent him into a half-spin.

Egozi went into lap 10 in fourth place, ahead of MP’s Emmo Fittipaldi, Cardenas, Rivera and his fellow Red Bull junior Jules Caranta. Colnaghi fell down the order and needed a new front wing, which he pitted for and consigned him to a points-free result. It also meant Gladysz’s performance put him level on points.

Abkhazava’s overworking of his tyres and fight with title contender Egozi meant he dropped to 11th on the last lap, and Campos’s Francisco Macedo retired.

Maciej Gladysz benefitted from contact between Red Bull juniors Nikola Tsolov and Jules Caranta to win the last race of the opening Eurocup-3 winter series round at Jerez.

It was a simple battle to be fastest in qualifying, which took place earlier in the day, with Global Racing Service’s Cristian Cantu on top at first, Palou Motorsport’s Luciano Morano lowering the pace twice then MP Motorsport’s Gladysz setting four successive improvements to occupy first place uninterrupted to the end.

Campos Racing’s Red Bull duo Caranta and Tsolov were 0.159 and 0.2 seconds slower than him in second and third, MP’s points leader Mattia Colnaghi was fourth and close behind him were Jesse Carrasquedo Jr (Campos), Oscar Wurz (Drivex School) and Tasanapol Inthraphuvasak (Campos).

Early title contenders James Egozi (Palou) and Juan Cota (Drivex) had all their laptimes deleted due to track limits abuse, and along with the slow Linus Hellberg (Allay Racing) and Adam Hideg (Palou) needed permission to start the race.

Gladysz didn’t make the best of getaways at the start of the race and focused on defending against those directly behind him. While both Carrasquedo and Wurz ended up on the grass as the cars fanned across the track, Caranta took the lead on the approach to the first turn.

As Gladysz then looked for a way back past Caranta down the back straight, Tsolov drove around his outside to take second place.

Caranta had opened up a second’s lead over Tsolov in the first five laps, although Tsolov had begun to reduce the margin by three tenths of a second before the safety car was deployed following a crash between Hideg and Lenny Ried.

Just 12 minutes remained when the race restarted and Caranta and Tsolov immediately went side-by-side in Turn 2, then again in Turn 6 where Tsolov slid down the inside under braking and then gave his team-mate no space on the outside, resulting in contact.

As Tsolov slowed with damage that would force him to retire, Gladysz drove around the outside of Caranta to reclaim the lead. With Caranta’s car potentially also hobbled by the contact, Gladysz would open up a gap of almost five seconds on his way to the chequered flag.

While Colnaghi couldn’t challenge Caranta, he did complete another double podium for MP’s Spanish F4 graduates after keeping Inthraphuvasak at bay. Carrasquedo, Emmo Fittipaldi and Wurz followed while Egozi charged from the back to finish ninth behind Alexander Abkhazava and ahead of Kacper Sztuka. Cota recovered as far as 15th.

Maciej Gladysz will move on up to Eurocup-3 with MP Motorsport for his second year in single-seater racing.

The Polish driver was a highly rated karter and part of the Sauber karting team in 2021 through sponsor Orlen, when he also won the FIA Karting Academy Trophy. The following year, driving for Ricky Flynn Motorsport on its Lando Norris OK Junior kart, he won the Champions of the Future Winter Series, came second in the WSK Euro Series and placed fourth in the World Championship.

After one year racing senior OK karts with RFM, he stepped up to cars with MP Motorsport for 2024, making his debut in the Formula Winter Series where he finished third overall. He would repeat that position in Spanish Formula 4, behind team-mates Mattia Colnaghi and Keanu Al Azhari, after a campaign that included three consecutive wins across the Paul Ricard and Motorland Aragon rounds in July.

“I’m thrilled to move on to my next challenge with MP Motorsport,” said Gladysz. “I’m looking back on a strong first year in which I achieved what I aimed for, and I feel I’m ready to take a step up the single-seater ladder.

“I have really grown into the team, who have also been very strong in Eurocup-3 this season, so it’s a no-brainer to stay with them as we go into the winter break preparing for the new season.”

Gladysz will make his debut in Formula Regional machinery in the Spanish Winter Championship that will take place over three rounds through February and March.

“Maciej has been nothing short of a revelation in his rookie year in car racing and fully deserves his immediate promotion to Eurocup-3,” said Sander Dorsman, MP Motorsport team principal.

“Taking three wins in his first season and a very competitive third in the championship was all we could have asked for, so we would like to keep Maciej in the MP family and together make the step up to the next level. MP Motorsport is all about accelerating talent – and that’s exactly what we are doing here.”

MP Motorsport’s Maciej Gladysz and Keanu Al Azhari won Spanish Formula 4’s two Sunday races at Motorland Aragon.

The day’s action began with qualifying, and Keanu Al Azhari just pipped MP Motorsport team-mate Griffin Peebles to race three pole by 0.04 seconds after both improved on their final lap.

Campos Racing’s Jan Przyrowski was 0.145s off Al Azhari’s 1m57.528s benchmark in third place, with MP’s Mattia Colnaghi and Maciej Gladysz in fourth and fifth. The title-contending Ernesto Rivera could only qualify 11th in his Campos-run car, and Rodin Motorsport’s Peter Bouzinelos was in 35th and last place after having all of his laptimes deleted due to track limits abuse.

Gladysz’s second-best lap from Saturday’s qualifying session comfortably put him on race two pole, and he shared the front row with Campos’s Nathan Tye. Enzo Tarnvanichkul (Campos) and Rene Lammers (MP) filled row two, with Mikkel Pedersen (Drivex School) and Lucas Fluxa (MP) next up.

Peebles and Bouzinelos qualified seventh and eighth, ahead of Pryzrowski, Colnaghi, Camspos’ James Egozi and Rivera. Al Azhari was all the way down in 17th place.

Gladysz immediately cut to the inside to defend his lead, and at turn one Monlau Motorsport’s Hiyu Yamakoshi spun around. Sainteloc Racing’s Matteo Quintarelli also crashed out, and the safety car was summoned.

Lammers and Fluxa each gained a place before racing was neutralised, while Al Azhari climbed to 13th.

Racing resumed on lap three, and the fight for second on lap five turned into a six-car fight with Fluxa snatching fourth ahead of Pedersen, Przyrowski and Tarnvanichkul. That enabled Gladysz to break away up front, with Tye and Lammers then creating a gap to the ongoing battle for fourth down to 10th.

Przyrowski attacked Pedersen for fifth on lap eight, and a lap later Al Azhari and Egozi went off track in battle as the former tried to get into the points.

Both battles went wrong, with Przyrowski dropping to eighth and Al Azhari later falling to 16th as more drivers got involved in their fights. Colnaghi demoted Pryzrowski to ninth on lap 12, as Gladysz cruised to victory by 2.63s.

Tarnvanickhul finished fifth, and Pedersen dropped to eighth due to a track limit penalty.

Race three was full of exciting action. Adam Hideg started from the pits due to a technical issue, Gladysz got a puncture and Tim Gerhard crashed on lap one, and Al Azhari gradually pulled away from Peebles and Colnaghi (who had passed Przyrowski) after an early saftey car peiod to take a championship lead-extending win.

Behind them, Tarnvichkul, Rivera, Tye, Lammers, Rivera and Rodin’s Thomas Strauven spent all race fighting over the remaining points places.

Przyrowski went down the order then back up it to finish fourth, Fluxa was fifth after gaining several places late on (including one from the penalised Rivera), Lammers was seventh and Tye spun out on the final lap.

Maciej Gladysz took his second Spanish Formula 4 win in a row in race one at Motorland Aragon.

Gladysz set a 1m57.942s to top free practice one, leading an MP Motorsport 1-2-3. Mattia Colnaghi was 0.241 seconds behind in second, Keanu Al Azhari trailed by 0.435s in third and Drivex School’s Juan Cota was 0.741s back in fourth. The gap covering the top four was the same as fourth to 22nd place.

FP2 was slightly slower, with Al Azhari setting a 1m57.967s to lead the way. Rodin Motorsport’s Thomas Strauven was 0.14s slower than him in second place, Colnaghi was 0.196s behind in third, with Gladysz and Drivex’s Mikkel Pedersen 0.239s and 0.292s back in fourth and fifth. The top 17 in the session were covered by a second.

Gladysz returned to the top in qualifying, going fastest by a sizeable 0.492s with a 1m58.734s lap. Campos Racing’s James Egozi was his closest rival, and Colnaghi was 0.541s off the pace in third. MP’s Lucas Fluxa in 14th was closer to second place than second was to first, and points leader Al Azhari was only 12th fastest. Campos’s Ernesto Rivera, who entered the event fourth in the standings, qualified 17th.

On second-best laptimes, Gladysz also had a big advantage. His 1m58.784s lap earned him race two pole by 0.527s over Campos’s Nathan Tye.

Enzo Tarnvanichkul (Campos) and Rene Lammers (MP) were third and fourth, Pedersen and Fluxa were 0.9s back in fifth and sixth while Griffin Peebles (MP) and Peter Bouzinelos (Rodin) were matched on pace 0.998s behind the poleman in seventh and eighth.

Race one took place in 38C heat, and Egozi had a slow start while Strauven peeled away from his fourth place grid spot then stopped. Campos’s Jan Przyrowski spun off a few corners in, Egozi had a chicane-cutting off and the safety car was summoned as Tecnicar Motorsport’s Lorenzo Castillo crashed out.

Gladysz ended lap one leading Colnaghi, Tye, Egozi, Tarnvanichkhul and Lammers, and they were set free to race again on lap four.

Egozi almost had an off at the same place as before and lost out to Tarnvnichkul, then Lammers and Al Azhari on the next lap, before the safety car returned due to Global Racing Service’s Alexander Jacoby crashing.

The next restart was on lap nine, and Lammers passed Tarnvanickhul for fourth after several corners of wheel-to-wheel action. Al Azhari also cleared him late in the lap, as Gladysz created a small gap over Colnaghi.

MP team-mates Lammers and Al Azhari started to battle, and an off for the former exiting turn one on lap 11 lost him two spots. Rivera retired in the pits, and in the remaining two tours there were more position changes.

A mistake from Fluxa lost him eighth to Cram Motorsport’s Adam Hideg, and Al Azhari did a dummy move on Tye to snatch third. It mattered little since Tye had a 15s penalty for track limits violations, which dropped him to 14th, while Fluxa fell to 28th on the final lap.

Maciej Gladysz scored a maiden Spanish Formula 4 victory in the final race of the weekend at Paul Ricard.

The MP Motorsport driver led home team-mate Keanu Al Azhari who extended his points lead, with Campos Racing’s James Egozi finishing a close third.

The day began with a 20-minute qualifying session, and Rodin Motorsport’s Thomas Strauven initially set the pace. Sainteloc Racing’s Yevan David then went to the top, before Strauven reclaimed first place in the session’s second half.

Gladysz broke into the 2m05s with just under eight minutes to go, and Egozi beat him by 0.024 seconds with five-and-a-half minutes remaining of qualifying.

Egozi lost out on pole after the chequered flag waved, as Gladysz set a 2m05.904s on his final lap to reclaim top spot. Al Azhari went third fastest, ahead of Campos’s Ernesto Rivera and MP’s Mattia Colnaghi who were matched on pace, with Strauven down in seventh.

Egozi made the slightly better launch at the start of the race but Gladysz used the inside line into turn one to remain ahead. Gladysz pulled over one second clear early on, but his advantage was reduced to 0.5s at the race’s halfway mark.

The gap was reduced further over the next few laps, with Al Azhari playing a waiting game behind the pair. Having swept around the outside of Colnaghi earlier in the race, Rivera soon made it a four-car lead train.

A defensive line from Gladysz into the final corner gave Egozi the opportunity to draw alongside at the start of the penultimate lap but he ran wide at turn one. The pair continued to run side-by-side on the exit but Egozi then lost second to Al Azhari who swept around the outside at Camp.

Egozi then faced a further challenge from Rivera but held on into the chicane. The chequered flag was waved in error at the end of the lap, but despite this the race continued for one more tour.

Gladysz held on to win by 0.325s, while Al Azhari covered off a renewed challenge from Egozi into the final corner for second. Rivera finished a close fourth, the quartet separated by little more than a second.

Colnaghi was 0.6s further adrift in fifth, while Campos’s Jan Przyrowski climbed from ninth to finish close behind him.

Sainteloc Racing Matteo Quintarelli was seventh ahead Campos’s Nathan Tye and MP’s Griffin Peebles, with Monlau Motorsport’s Tim Gerhards completing the top 10. Strauven slipped back from seventh to 12th, two places ahead of MP’s Lucas Fluxa who slipped to fifth in the championship.
